  1. I was just at Marty’s fundraiser Monday and he asked the audience for recommendations on which office he should run for. I heard this rumor about running for Congress today and I can’t say that I’m upset, if it’s true. I think that both Dusty and Larry are formidable opponents for Governor and it the race doesn’t get diluted, it may be a win win. Marty would make a great Congressman.

    1. Sounds like a career politician—asking the donor class what he should run for. Really shows he cares…not.

      1. I don’t see any issue at all with a politician conferring with his/her constituents. Marty has a unique ability to connect to people, and I find that a plus.

  2. Not surprised. Maybe he takes Dusty’s job. Dusty, Larry, and Marty in a primary opens the door to Jon or Toby. Should be a fascinating contest for the GOP gubernatorial nomination.

    1. Regardless he now has everyone on their toes.

He’s tied for governor, he could run for reelection or walk into congress.

    2. I think this is going to be the most interesting SD campaign ever. We have the traditional Republican sitting governor, a Trump errand runner who has marinated in the cesspool of Washington politics for a while now. He is working for the Trump endorsement, but Trump may screw him over because – and then we have Toby Doeden, Super Trumper who has a large war chest and a growing follower base. Does Trump screw Dusty over and endorse the Super Trumper? You know Toby’s in there working hard to get that endorsement and Trump has shown a propensity for throwing endorsements to the most maga people. It’s starting to look a little bit like a Republican civil war is brewing.

    1. Marty could win governor. He’s at the top of the field.

I find congress unlikely. He’s always said he’d never run.

  3. He can’t win in the Governor’s race, even though some think he has a chance. Dusty too formidable in a multi person race. Marty may have a chance head to head, but that’s not going to happen. So go serve in Congress, and then wait for the Gov or Senate seat to open. The alternative is be known someday as a former AG. People will quickly forget. Congress to Senate – now you’re building a legacy… if that sort of thing matters to him.

  4. I’ve definitely heard worse ideas, such as Liz May or Taffy Howard. He would be a great Congressman if he runs.

    1. The Missus May and Taffy are what you might call “shrewed.”
Mr. Jackley is basically what you might call “f-ed.”

  5. Both Jackley and Dusty are running for office. For each it’s just a question of which.

In Rhoden’s case, the office is certain, but it’s not clear whether or not he’s running.

    1. To the question of certainty… here’s what I’m certain of.
Dusty will run for Governor, but no reason to announce anytime soon. With millions in the bank and your opponents with next to nothing, you can control the timing of this election.

Rhoden will run for Governor, because geez… this job’s kinda fun. But he does need to make an announcement and then find a way to put some money in the bank. So timing is more urgent for him. Anyone know if Daugaard still has a campaign fund?

Jackley will not run for Governor. There is a narrow path with Rhoden also in the race. But he’ll hold off, just in case something changes.

  6. Jackley should run for Congress. He has no real path to the governor’s office, Dusty will take all of his voters. Jackley has been a great AG, but I am sure would be a very good congressman.

    1. Jackley has a path just like Dusty and Larry.

It’s a coin toss for all of them.

He wins congress going away. I haven’t heard of anyone running for certain.
