Thune Statement on Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Legislation

“Enacting TPA will be a boon to the economy, expanding opportunities for American workers and giving American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers access to new markets for their goods.”

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), member of the Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over trade-related matters, issued the following statement on today’s announcement of bipartisan trade promotion authority (TPA) legislation introduced by U.S. Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.):

“Today’s announcement is much-needed good news for American workers and businesses. Enacting TPA will be a boon to the economy, expanding opportunities for American workers and giving South Dakota farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers access to new markets for their goods,” Thune said. “The challenges facing our nation are best solved when members of both parties come together to find solutions for the American people, and I commend Sens. Hatch and Wyden and Chairman Ryan for their efforts on TPA and other trade-related issues.”

  1. Last time conservatives swooned over a liberal Presidents trade deal was when a Clinton was leader. PS …. when is coming for the gun huggers weapons? It’s been seven years, now.

    1. Liberals/Socialists like yourself don’t have any concern about the future so long as everything is okay during your time on this earth. The heck with what Obama’s policies are going to do to the future of children (I have three, and I AM concerned about the future for their sake).

If you cannot see that Obama would love to get rid of the Second Amendment, Obamacare is going to cause poor service and loss of service, that open borders are a bad policy, then you are dumber than even the average lefty.

I think you’d be better suited posting on the blog formerly know as “Madville Times” than here, because all you are doing is revealing the lack of depth of liberals.

      1. Anonymous April 17, 2015 at 11:38 am, can you provide a link to a story from one of the major news networks that documents Obama saying he wants to abolish the Second Amendment. CNN, FOX New, CBS, NBC, ABC, any of those will do. And you know America’s borders have always been ‘open’, right? That’s not a new policy from Obama. I’ve had two doctor appointments this year and had great service both times. Took my 85 year old mom to a doctor appointment and she received excellent service too. I recommend you make an appointment and see for yourself that ‘service’ isn’t poor or been lost. And maybe ask for a prescription for ‘happy meds’.

        1. I accompanied my daughter to an appointment with the most highly recommended surgeon in Sioux Falls. These recommendations came from physicians at both Avera and Sanford, who declared this particular surgeon is the best for the particular job.
Right next to the receptionist is a sign which states “This hospital does not participate in the Medicaid program.”

          1. Lots of physicians and hospitals do not participate in the Medicaid program. It’s not required and that’s not new with ACA. Sorry your daughter is on Medicaid though.

        2. re: current great medical service under ahca – the ahca template was welded over the frame of the existing medical system and the medical providers trained by it. the expected attrition hasn’t occurred yet of course, but it’s equally naive in the other direction to say fears of declining levels of service over the long haul are unfounded. britain, among others, show us our probable future and it’s not pretty.

  2. Excuse me, please. The above question forgot a word and probably made little sense. As a liberal I’m just wondering when the President that Sen. Thune is now agreeing with became less of a pariah to conservatives? When is he coming for the guns? When are all the Doctors going to quit because of Obamacare? When is the economy going bankrupt? And when are the Mexicans going to stream over the border carrying nukes and ebola? It seems one political party lacks cred when making predictions ….. especially when it involves the future.

  3. TPA only makes sense. Tough to negotiate without it. Congress still gets the final vote. Doesn’t really matter if president is R or D, but whether congress is.

  4. @duggersd … an insult from you and your many followers here at Mr. Power’s blog is high praise. Hoping your dreams are fulfilled and your political goals are met to everyone’s benefit, sir. Always a pleasure to read your comments on my posts.

    1. I did not know it was an insult. But since you asked about the government wanting to take guns, perhaps you missed it, but do you remember a program called Fast & Furious? It was a gun walking scheme that had part of its intention to make the public so concerned about these types of guns that the people would demand and end to “assault” weapons. Just a few weeks ago, the feds tried to make it more difficult to purchase a type of bullet that is used in a lot of AR-15s. After Sandy Hook, the President was begging for more guns to become illegal. What is stopping him is groups like the NRA that make the public aware as to what the Democrats are up to.

      1. It appears a Republican administration was complicit with the gun walking scheme. The first operations began in 2006 in Arizona. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATF_gunwalking_scandal

After Sandy Hook and then the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, I started to agree with suggestions of tighter gun controls. My older brother is a life-long hunter, spends every weekend during hunting season in his duck boat or walking fields, has plenty of hunting guns and one pistol, has been in law enforcement for 21 years and refuses to become a member of the NRA. He believes it’s an organization that intentionally uses propaganda to spread fear that the govt wants to take away guns. Can I assume you, dugger, are a card-carrying member of the NRA?

        1. @Anonymous ( the sane one) ~ It’s been over a year since the fifteen round magazine (no limit on how many you can have and it takes only 1.2 sec. to drop and reload a fifteen rounder) has been in effect and not ONE person has shown the need for more than fifteen bullets at a time. PS … ammo magazines up to a hundred rounds are only used to give gun-huggers what we call a “protection erection” when they dress up like a soldier and pretend to be protecting something, usually women who find them odd.

  5. There’s anxiety meds for you gun huggers. It’s better for everybody if you’re a bit paranoid, anyway. You can dress up and imagine you’re protecting the womenfolk when the govment comes to take ’em. I’ve owned guns since the 50’s and the y’all act ridiculous with yours.

  6. Mr. Lansing there’s a huge difference between owning guns and knowing how & when to use them. We agree on one thing though. Protecting our family will always come first.

BTW how the Hell do you know Lee Schoenbeck? (Did he kick your tail in a lawsuit?)

The other thing you don’t obviously get is guys like Senator Thune always will do the right thing even if it helps the opposition. That would be called Character!!

  7. @Hoffman … I don’t agree that anyone needs guns to protect their family. That’s crazy talk that comes from fear and ignorance. Liberals are secure in the knowledge that we’re Patriots and USA isn’t out to get us, Charlie. We don’t waste our time with it. We’re busy removing the conservatives from office and progressing our country to it’s full potential. Not selfishly hiding away and excluding people that are a bit different.

  8. Porter the facts just do not support your assertions.
“Defensive use of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although the exact number remains disputed (Cook and Ludwig, 1996; Kleck, 2001a). Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010).” http://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=18319&page=15
Progressives such as you have a tendency to think with their hearts instead of their heads. And as usual, the facts just do not support your assertions. Yes, Democrats in Congress and in the White House want to curtail the ownership of guns by law abiding individuals. Yes, the proper use of guns save lives. Yes, the best way for a liberal mass murderer to kill people is to go to an area in which guns are not allowed, even for self-defense.

  9. Porter you are making my dog bark outside as she smells blood. She is an an absolute master of deception.

The trick to any relevant conversation is getting past the code talk and into the meat without going all postal on the talker.

But hey I do give you credit for having the Huevo’s to use your real name.

One question: If it’s ok for millions of American Liberals to vote for Hillary just because she is a woman is it ok for millions of American Independants to vote for Rubio just because he is Hispanic?

  10. WHY LIBERALS OWN GUNS
“Liberals own guns for the same reason we own sports cars and Harleys and bass boats. For entertainment … Not because we listen to some pimp group like the NRA who’s sole objective is to sell the products that are advertised in their magazine. They don’t care a lick about you. There was a time NRA was about safety and sportsmen. Then the conservatives took control. They made the USA the enemy because the gov’t hasn’t got time or money to answer their foolish acusations. Hunting guns last a lifetime and that’s not good for sales so they’ve convinced the gullible to buy more and more of the weapons they advertise to protect themselves from tyranny. What a steaming pile of it.”

  11. Mr. Hoffman…as a politician I’m sure you know what a straw man argument is, huh? Millions of American liberals won’t vote for Hillary just because she’s a woman. You make up an assertion then build your case on those allusions and tear it down and claim victory. Try again.

  12. Porter I hold no ill will towards you and actually find some truth in what you write. A pump 20 Gauge is the best home defense weapon ever made. Shooting it often will make anyone master it as if it were an extension of their arms. Ex cons say the most fear they ever felt was hearing one pump chambering a round in a dark home when they thought they were alone.

    1. it’s ok to be quite worried about hillary. the president hasn’t set her up to fail, he has gassed up the freight train that put him in office. all the president has to do now is protect what he has already done with a democrat congress, demonize republicans for trying to dismantle it, demonize republicans when the pain of what he passed finally kicks in, and support hillary. i wish bill clinton could run again, i’d vote for that guy, he loved my country for the most part.

      1. Republicans don’t need any outside help from anyone when it comes to demonizing themselves. 🙂

  13. C’mon, Charlie. You’re saying the conservative government of South Dakota can’t insure the safety of the tens of thousands of citizens in Sioux Falls, Rapid, Aberdeen et al that don’t own a gun? Liberal leadership will do better.
