100 Farmers and Ranchers Endorse Governor Rhoden

Pierre, SD – Today, 100 farm and ranch operations from across South Dakota launched Farmers and Ranchers for Rhoden ahead of the July 28 Republican runoff election. The coalition brings together farmers, ranchers, and agricultural families from communities across South Dakota to support Governor Larry Rhoden — a lifelong rancher who has spent decades working for agriculture and rural South Dakota.

“South Dakota agriculture isn’t just an industry to me. It’s my life,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “I grew up on a ranch and raised my family on that same ranch. While being Governor prevents me from doing ranch work as much as I’d like, I understand the work. There’s meaning to working with your hands to make something – and there’s a risk and responsibility that comes with making a living off the land. I understand that because I’ve lived it my entire life.”

As governor, Rhoden has made strengthening agriculture and rural communities a central priority of his administration. He has defended private property rights, expanded opportunities for South Dakota producers, supported value-added agriculture, strengthened rural infrastructure, and ensured that state government understands the challenges facing farmers and ranchers.

Rhoden said the support of fellow farmers and ranchers is especially meaningful to him: “I’m honored to have the support of these 100 South Dakota fellow ag producers. These families feed the world, sustain our rural communities, and carry on South Dakota’s way of life. Ag will remain king in South Dakota for as long as I am Governor.”

  1. Wow!
Just 100 farm and ranching operations support the governor.
How many farms and ranches are in South Dakota?
Sounds like a pretty insignificant number.

    RLTW

  2. You know damn well it’s not a complete list! I’m a rancher and voted for trump 3 times. I wouldn’t agsin and I certainly eint support someone who is in complete lockstep with him. Every time trump speaks it hurts farmers and ranchers. Start a war, diesel goes up, open the Mexican border to live cattle the markets free fall. Put 2.5% tariff back on China imports soybeans tank. And thats just in the last couple weeks. Plenty of ranchers and farmers here in McPherson support Rhoden. They just don’t put their name to it because the crazies would bully them and not leave them alone.

  3. Ethanol producer & stockholder here. The Jon/Toby combined oppostion to the ethanol industry is hard to swallow. Northeast South Dakota corn producers will forego >$90,000,000.00 in unrealized income this year.

    Math is hard but…15# co2/bushel. 400,000 bushels/day (northeast SD ethanol mills). 400,000 bushel x 15# = 6,000,000# or 3,000 tons. 3,000t x $85/ton (market value/ton co2) = $225,000/day.

Rhoden stood by and watched as Jon ripped this from my market. Rhoden stood by and watched as Gevo left.

Not a big Rhoden fan, but I’ll wipe the grease off my vice grip, clamp it on my nose, and check the box

    1. Rhoden if he had any LEADERSHIP would’ve vetoed 1052. Him signing it was 100% what is best for Larry not what is best for SD.

      Larry is wrong for SD.

      1. I agree he should have vetoed it but like most politicians he counted the votes to over-ride such a veto first.
I still think he should have vetoed it. At least he could say he tried to stop it.

        1. Agreed, my man R should have vetoed, if only to stand up for economic issues, and forced an override.

      2. You know you venture capitalist / farmer types can always ask Scott Bessent what HE would do in your shoes. He’s into soybeans but I bet he has corn ideas for the budding billionaire.

  4. It’s Tuesday, and the polls are about to open. Godspeed everyone, may South Dakota rise to its challenges.

  5. Seeing this list didn’t make me think of the endorsement; it made me think of how we have fewer and fewer farms as we consolidate. We are seeing this with small businesses and private equity in the professional service industries, and sadly, the family farm is doing the same. With Ag prices the way they are right now, pretty soon, the quantity will probably be in the 100’s.

  6. Each one of these should list the amount of welfare they get from the federal govt each year and their current indebtedness.

Lots of big hat types in this list mismanaging themselves out of business and voting for Trump to twist the knife just a little more.
