In July, everyone was saying that “the SDGOP they can’t do worse than only raising $85.” And it seems like former 32 year Democrat Jim Eschenbaum must have declared hold my beer – because they managed to do just that.
The SDGOP raised ZERO dollars between July 1 and July 31 of 2025.

They might have received something from county organizations that would go into the state account. But absolutely no on-line donations via WinRed which runs through federally. They did transfer $4654.73 from the state account into their federal account. Which I’m guessing is to cover expenses..
The party had about $2800 in expenses, with about $32,867 left over after moving money. $32,800… Which, if you think about it, might constitute most of their money for the SDGOP Raffle.
Because according to their records, they’ve got nearly $38,000 worth of not terribly expensive guns that they’ve committed to give away weekly.
Well, the SDGOP seems to have managed to make history this month.
Because I don’t think they’ve ever had a month where they raised absolutely nothing.

Almost have to wonder if there is something else afoot. Some grand conspiracy with Dr Evil pulling the strings. Regardless, the SDGOP is getting right shagged by its current leadership.
Bottom line. The South Dakota Republican Party ceased being so a while back. Might as well call it the RINO party now. It has become more accurately an extremist movement which pushes and rewards itself by becoming even more extreme. The fringe who used to be soundly rejected and kept no where near seats have power have taken over. This cannot be normalized!
This latest financial report should be no surprise at all but reflects how socially and economically toxic this small but very vocal politically extreme activists are. We see it in many of our communities too that are really struggling. Each session along with legislators send out messaging that could be used as case studies of what not to do in political science and business marketing classes at one of our universities. They are killing it for the rest of us no matter where you are politically.
