Dusty Johnson on political violence; Quit demonizing each other, and talk together about how to get better

The Argus Leader interviewed Congressman Dusty Johnson on how we might quell the increase in political violence that seems to be getting worse in our country:

U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson wants Democrats and Republicans to quit demonizing each other as the nation grapples with rising political violence.

and..

“I’ve got a list of things that I’ve identified that I can personally do to try to improve the quality of our discourse,” Johnson told the Argus Leader. “Give people the benefit of the doubt. Don’t always assume the other party is motivated only by malice. Don’t engage in whataboutism. If your side has done something wrong, be willing to analyze that wrongness and make changes where necessary rather than always try to turn the guilt to someone else.”

and..

“Don’t always be so quick to criticize others, right?” Johnson said. “Spend some time on personal reflection and try to figure out what you and the people in your universe can do to get better. That rarely means, it sometimes means, but doesn’t always mean public condemnation. Sometimes, it means that we talk together about how to get better.”

  1. OMGoodness, that’s rich coming from someone who has bowed to his leader and apparently isn’t into self-reflection of the damage he is doing to poor Americans (LifeScape, ACA premiums, Medicaid cuts, etc).

    1. Hey, we told you the ACA and its Medicaid expansion was not sustainable. Ten states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, Wyoming) never enacted Medicaid expansion, 9 states (Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah, Virginia) have trigger laws which end it when the federal subsidy expires, 3 more (Idaho, Iowa, New Mexico require legislative review before continuing it. That’s 22 states where people were smart enough to see it was going to be a problem.

It’s not the Republicans’ fault you didn’t listen and voted for something you couldn’t pay for. The only way to pay for it is to raise taxes. Here, that means property and sales taxes, so the cost of housing and food will have to go up. Rents will go up and food will cost more. You think people can afford higher rents? Higher food costs?

      1. Healthcare needs reworking. I don’t think “Concepts of a plan” is going to get anything done for the people. Every modern country in this world pays less for healthcare and has better outcomes. Somehow, we can’t figure it out because profits are important and we can’t be keeping worthless people alive according to that Fox News host who thinks we should just kill the homeless with mental issues. Until we determine keeping people alive is a fundamental right, we are just going to have more suffering while we worship the wealthy billionaires we never will be.

        1. no he did not. Ridiculing people for their behavior is not demonizing them or calling for violence against them. That’s the trouble with snowflakes, a little heat and they have meltdowns.
So you’re ugly and your mother dresses you funny?
Run crying to Mommy about how the other kids are picking on you.

          1. “Maybe he should have been roughed up, because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing.”

“If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously, okay? Just knock the hell—I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees. I promise, I promise.”

“I would bring back waterboarding. And I’d bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”

“I’d like to punch him in the face.”

“Any guy that can do a body slam, he is my guy!”

“When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

“Can’t you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?”

  3. The shooters are from the “two-party-system-is-broken” camp, which unfortunately is rooted in MAGA.
You wanna help, Dusty? Don’t continue to be shut-eye toward the utterly derailed Congress overseen by Mike Johnson and John Thune. THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING REVOLT. People conned into thinking a Trump vote would give them power are learning that having Trump in power is only good for Trump.
Trump has you rubes in his pocket, admit it.
The US Congress, in its strongest past sessions, is the body that preserves justice and personal freedom. Trump has flipped you off like a light switch and you look like gormless neuts. FIX THAT Dusty, really help for once.

      1. There’s a difference in behaviors, when you compare “leadership in office” and “protecting and improving one’s electability.” Sort it out.

  4. It’s amazing how fast the party of freedom is embracing military in our streets, restricting free speech, imposing taxes, and destroying the economy. I find solace in knowing that his voters will most likely have to deal with the fallout. They will suffer the most from his actions.

    1. Don’t forget all of the farmers crying and begging for a Farm Bill and reprieve from tariffs. Some people need to learn how to lie in the bed they made.

      1. It will be another one of the largest socialist handouts in history. Just like the last one he did in his 1st term. He was handing out checks to farmers every month. Record bankruptcies and farmer suicides since the 80s while his buddies bought up cheap land. They are going to do it all over again and these guys keep voting for Trump again. He wasn’t good for farmers or the oil industry and they all got behind him. It would be hilarious if we weren’t the ones paying for his economic blunders.
