WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today joined The Briefing with Steve Scully on SiriusXM radio.
So how did the “No Kings” rally work here in South Dakota?
All I saw yesterday was one guy on the corner of 6th Street and 17th Avenue in Brookings, set up with a black flag that, as it fluttered in the breeze appeared to say “CHRIST IS KING” and I thought, “hell, yeah, why didn’t I think of that?”

Sen. Thune mentions all of those “left wing activists” who would be attending the No Kings rallies. It’s a damn shame, isn’t it? When you have to rely on liberals to save our democracy.
Trump, with his giant portrait now plastered on federal buildings in DC, is openly weaponizing the Justice Department to go after the opposition. He threatens the press and even late-night comedians. He sends in the military to large cities everywhere. Cuts congressional funding to liberal towns whenever he feels like it. And pardons hundreds of criminals, while charging prosecutors with crimes.
So, of course, the senator blames the left wing activists who are objecting to all of these abuses. But… they might just save us from Trump’s attempt to overturn American norms. Who would have thought?
Sorry, I forgot a few things…
There are masked ice agents in unmarked cars, grabbing people off the streets. Russia-style military parades. Don’t forget Trump’s praise of dictators. And he even wants some “Arc de Trump” style monument In DC now.
Oh for the days when vaccine mandates were the greatest threat to freedom.
put down the Kool-Aid about ICE agents grabbing people off the streets. I worked in HR at the Morrell plant. The immigration raids were not random, they didn’t just show up and grab people based on skin color. They knew whom they were looking for, courtesy of the HR office. We were able to spot the obvious illegals when they applied for jobs, and reported them to ICE. ICE told us to hire them so they would know where to pick them up. And that is why the employers aren’t charged for illegally hiring them. The employers are using eVerify and cooperating with ICE, which makes the videos showing other employees trying to hide their illegal. coworkers or attacking ICE agents particularly funny, as they are unaware it was their own boss who reported the illegals in the first place. They’re so dumb they don’t know they are working for the guys responsible for the raid..
Dozens of American citizens have been snatched and locked up by these guys.
If somebody grabbed your kid, in a mask and unmarked vehicle, you would go nuts! And they wonder why there’s resistance? Give me a break. One of us is hooked on Kool-aid and it’s not me.
they are not arresting citizens or legal immigrants unless those people are victims of identity theft, so if this is rampant it just illustrates the need to stop illegal immigration.
Illegal immigrants steal others’ identities all the time. If one of them is using your ID, yes, you might be arrested by mistake.
When I was at Morrell’s we had two people, Jose Garcia, same name, same DOB, same SSN. If one of them had a warrant for his arrest, it would not have been a surprise if the other one was picked up by mistake.,
There are disturbing videos of these mistaken identity arrests on you tube, in one, a woman in her fifties was getting off a cruise ship and was arrested for child endangerment. “What children??” she asked. Her adult children were with her. She spent four days in jail, over Christmas, until it was determined she was not the 20-something year old woman they were looking for. Another video shows a SWAT team arresting an elderly woman who was in her front yard watering her garden. They locked her ip overnight before finding out the person they were looking for was using a maiden name the old lady hadn’t gone by for 40 years. I don’t know the immigration status of the real perps, but at that point, who cares? .
if US citizens are getting their identities stolen and find out they are facing criminal charges, that just shows you the extent of the illegal immigrant problem. It is not an argument which supports your cause, it’s an argument that calls for greater enforcement.
You left out the part where she was charged with assaulting a federal officer while he was attempting to arrest a suspect.
One military parade to celebrate the 250th birthday of the Army, or maybe 4 such parades every one thousand years, doesn’t strike too many of us as offensive, or excessive.
Calling such a parade “Russian style” is specious. The Russians didn’t invent military parades, victorious armies have been doing it for thousands of years. The Arch of Titus, constructed to celebrate the “pacification” of Palestine in 70 CE, still stands on the Via Sacra in Rome. The carved panels depict the parade held in 71 CE.
Get over it.
Yes. Russia-style military parade. Giant posters of his mug on buildings. Demanding the press give him good coverage. Constructing monuments. Pardoning his goons.

Romans built the first triumphal arches to commemorate victories and had parades through them. The French imitated this with their own arch in 1806, the British in 1830.
Military parades have been a thing for thousands of years. In Massachusetts every April, people dress up in Colonial costumes, shoulder muskets and march to Lexington and Concord. It’s fun. If you don’t enjoy such spectacles, don’t go to them.
Oh, I see that one of those goons that Trump pardoned has just been arrested for threatening to kill the US House Minority Leader.
