Former SD Senate Majority Leader & State Treasurer Homer Harding celebrates 100th Birthday

One of the last giants from the golden age of the South Dakota State Legislature before term limits, having served as Senate Minority/Majority Leader from 1971 through 1988, G. Homer Harding of Pierre celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday and was joined and celebrated by current Senate Majority Leader Jim Mehlhaff:

Homer also served as the South Dakota State Treasurer for a term from 1991-1994. For more specifics, according to the South Dakota State Legislature :

– Minority Leader 1975-1976
– Majority Leader 1977-1988
– LRC Executive Board member 1979-1984
– State Treasurer 1991-1994

  1. Mr. Harding was an adequate treasurer, but where he really shined was as Leader. Homer, you are one swell fellow.

  3. Thanks for sharing the post Pat. Homer Harding is just as sharp and every bit the gentleman he has always been. It was mentioned at the party that he recently renewed his driver’s license. When he received it and looked it over he remarked that he was good to go till he’s 105! I love that spirit and optimism, and I am sure these qualities (and others) are what made him such an effective leader in the Army, in business and in the Senate.
