  1. I thought the invocation was very cool and very respectful. Not everyone in South Dakota is a Christian. Props to Mayor Paul and the Council for inviting the priestess, or whatever she is called in her religion.

      1. No it is not! It looks like a Norse faith. Plenty of other faiths here in South Dakota and what is now the United States of America. The Catholic Church incorporated over time a number of Pagan rituals and symbols within it’s faith.

We need more diverse faiths and even Atheists providing invocations at all levels of government especially the legislature during session.

  2. Actually, In case you forgot, the America that we all love is not a Christian Nation.
It is a Nation that lets you be Christian.
It also has Religious freedom, so all religions
even those that you know nothing about are
    as legitimate as Christianity.
By the way, Donald Trumps Jesus imitation
    was an insult to God.
And that was a mockery of your religion.

    1. That is a flawed understanding of the establishment and free exercise clauses of the Constitution. A basic understanding of history provides ample evidence that our nation’s founding generation and framers of our nation were overwhelmingly Christian men who believed that this nation had the responsibility to honor and obey God as he is presented in the Bible. Yes, they constrained government so that it could not establish and require membership in and attendance of a specified church. That does not mean they believed all religions were equally legitimate.

      1. Very few of the original founders were christians. They framed this country so everyone can worship as they please without government threat. It has nothing to do with your so-called legitimacy of your imagination.

            1. The Continental Congress created the Army Chaplain Corps in 1775 to ensure that our nation’s fighting force was morally grounded. The chaplains were exclusively Christian and remained so by law until the Civil War.

        1. Again, that is factually inaccurate. I’ll assume you’re misinformed rather than that you’re intentionally lying.

            1. Almost any of Washington’s writings, various acts of the Continental Congress, statements by various Presidents of the era. Your ignorance isn’t my assignment. Educate yourself.

          1. Jefferson, Franklin, and Paine were all unquestionably deists. There is some debate about Washington, Madison, Monroe, and Adams, but they frequently spoke against predominantly christian ideals such as the trinity and frequently referred to providence and the creator, commonly used deist terms. Can I just call you a liar now since you seem so afraid of providing evidence of your claims?

            1. Where do you get this nonsense? Washington, Adams, and Monroe were devout Christians. I’ve sat in the Washington family pew in the church he attended. Washington petitioned Congress to establish a Chaplain Corps to provide Christian religious teaching to the nation’s then newly founded Army.

                1. Also, if you want evidence of Adams explicit rejection of the divinity of christ, let me know.

                2. Many persons at the end of the 18th century were both Christians and Deists. But it cannot be said, in the simpleminded sense in which historians have become accustomed to putting it, that Washington was merely a Deist, or even that the God to whom he prayed was expected to behave like a Deist God at all.

                  1. To that point, Washington wrote in his Thanksgiving proclamation that is the duty of all nations to give thanks to God for his divine providence as well as to obey his commands.

Yeah! 1 new religion providing the invocation to every local, county and state meeting.

38 to 40 day legislative session so that would mean in 10,000 legislative days the invocation religion clock is reset.

  4. Does MAGA qualify as a cult/religion so it can provide an invocation? President Trump has portrayed himself as the Pope, Jesus then after public outrage a healer or doctor. What next? He reveals himself at 3:00am as the Anti-Christ?

  5. You put your left foot out
You put your left foot in
You put your left foot out
And you shake it all about
You do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around
    That’s what it’s all about.
