It’s January 13th – do Democrats know where their candidate for Governor is?
I mean, yes, They do have Robert Arnold, a 19 – 20ish year old student running for the office. Who like any other Democrat, will need to turn in 1,232 valid signatures. But Robert isn’t exactly coming in with a network of donors, or activists behind him. He’s kind of on his lonesome. Which brings into question whether he’s going to have all the names he needs.
There were early rumors that the Democrat Party’s Executive Director Dan Ahlers was supposedly going to jump in, take one for the team, and be the Democrats more seasoned candidate. But I haven’t heard that for ages now. And here were are nearly 2 weeks past the start of petition circulation. Not a peep that anyone is out there running petitions around the state for the other side of the aisle.
I can’t help but wonder if Democrats might possibly be going to give Republicans a bye in this contest?
Have you heard anything I haven’t?

SD is a one-party state. No Dem has been elected to statewide office in a generation. Why bother to run a Dem candidate?
Most people know why.
Can’t blame folks for not wanting neo-klan members harassing them with a state full of boot-lickers who’ll gladly look the other way and/or tacitly encourage.
Why aren’t Billie, Stephanie or Brendan looking at it? A fractured GOP could be there year.
Robert Arnold for SD Governor supporters are posting memes over at Toby’s campaign facebook page that Robert Arnold will get more votes than Toby Doeden. It was unexpected yet funny! Lets hope that happens!
Make it so! Arnold has a budget of practically zero. It would hilarious for Arnold to gain more votes than Doeden considering Toby thinks he can buy his way to the governors office. Arnold is far more knowledgeable about issues and the BS going on in the state than QAnon conspiracist Toby Doeden. Good on Arnold’s supporters!
Looking forward to seeing dollars spent vs votes gained ratio.
They’re playing it smart…waiting to see who the Republicans nominate. If it’s anyone other than Dusty, they’re gonna roll out Billy Sutton or even Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin.
That’s right. The South Dakota Democratic Party – master strategists as always. Their current standing with 8 legislators out of 105 is just lulling us into complacency.
That would be the smart move.
Everything’s falling Larry’s way so far. Interesting to see how long the streak lasts.
Billie has a “snout-full” of dirty politics his opponent played during the last gubnatorial election. I doubt he’s interested.
If Larry wins the GOP primary, I think the Dems will try to draft Dusty. He might find that a freeing experience.
