Beaudion drops out of US Senate race

It was a sleepy Tuesday of news until late this afternoon when the Democrat dropped out of the US Senate race:

However, as recently as yesterday, some people including this reporter from the Washington Post were out there claiming that was not going to be the case:

Now, less than a day later, he was having to update his post – but was very specific to note that Beaudion was NOT supporting the remaining independent candidate Brian Bengs, who was running in third place in polls prior to today’s announcement.

We’ll see how this changes the context of the race with Bengs, the independent third place candidate running against Senator Mike Rounds, who has already been endorsed by President Trump.

  1. If this turns into a race it will be hard to motivate the volunteers. They have been a sleep for over a decade.

  2. Beng is a Libertarian and not a former Democrat, even though he was the Party’s Senate nominee in ’22. All you have to do is watch his pieces on YouTube from when he was a professor at NSU and his once speech to the Heritage Foundation to understand that.

  3. grudznick’s close personal friend Lar wonders why anyone cares about this. But then Lar is a Libertarian at heart as well, and likes to laugh at the Democrat party.

  4. Bengs ran as a Democrat against Thune 4 years ago and lost. He has taken things he learned from that campaign and put them in place to be a successful candidate for th Senate against Marion Michael Rounds. Bengs has my vote

      1. All the Democrats need is someone who isn’t a Republican. Bengs will be supported.
This state GOP came dangerously close to putting Toby Doeden in the governors mansion. The hair splitting you all are doing about whether Bengs is “bad” for democrats is truly comedic.

  5. I am a Republican. I don’t agree with Julian but I like him. He is a good man.

Bengs is a manipulative weasel. He ran as a Democrat for senate but now wants us to believe he’s an independent. As if he won’t side with the Democrats in the senate.

Worse, it’s very clear from Julian’s statements that Bengs went to some extreme lengths to force Julian out and facilitate this deceptive scheme. I hope Julian sheds more light on that.

    The Dems should be ticked.

    1. and yet maybe the democrats are really ready to have someone other than mike rounds, regardless of these or those hurt feelings. south dakota is only the reddest state in the country after all.

    2. I don’t think he’ll side with Dems in the Senate. He’s very libertarian. But he’s also not Rounds, so this Democrat will vote for him. Just sick of ol’ Mike.

  6. A wolf in sheep’s clothing won’t work here. He didn’t want a primary and thought running as an independent would give him cover. I think even the casual observer would recognize this as a scam.

  7. Anyone who votes Republican in ANY race is voting for:
    * Trump to keep enriching himself and his family
    * Trump to keep using the Iran war to benefit his stock trading
    * Trump to keep giving billionaire cronies and Fox TV hosts important cabinet jobs
Because we have weeks months and years of proof that Republican majorities won’t lift a finger to stop, and will actually vote to ENABLE, the failures and outrages listed above.
It pains me to say it – as a Rounds fan who thinks he might be the most beneficial Governor this state ever had – aside from keeping Ellsworth issues on track, Rounds has been a total waste of space.

  8. I listened to Mr Beaudion’s interview on a SD podcast. The best that could be said of his comments, and this is very charitable, is that he is way not ready for prime time. His politics would be better placed in NYC or Seattle or Detroit, not the Midwest. He did a charitable act for the Democrats by withdrawing

    1. They begged him to, and chose to run an empty suit in his stead. Says something about what they knew.
