South Dakota Democrats are in the media today, complaining about efforts by Governor Larry Rhoden to deport illegal aliens who are in state prison after being convicted of felony crimes.
In a press release from South Dakota Democrats, House Minority leader Erin Healey noted:
“This operation with ICE creates fear and uncertainty for immigrant families. When we turn state troopers and DOC agents into ICE enforcers, we’re not protecting anyone. We’re tearing families apart, hurting our economy, and damaging trust with law enforcement.”
In a story posted by the Dakota Scout, the Governor’s staff provided an example of the families being ‘torn apart’ by deportation:
The governor’s office is defending the initiative as a targeted public safety effort aimed at removing individuals convicted of serious crimes from the state. Rhoden’s press secretary, Josie Harms, cited two recent ICE deportation cases that originated in South Dakota: a Honduran woman convicted of child sexual exploitation who was deported, and an Eritrean man convicted of sexual contact with a child. The latter is still in DOC custody awaiting deportation.
I think the criminal’s families were torn apart by their sex crimes against kids moreso than these people being removed from the country.
Democrats are protesting that illegal aliens or others who came to this country who have been tried, convicted, and sent to prison are being removed from the country for child sexual exploitation, and child molestation?
I don’t think that’s a hill I would die on if I were the Democrats.

Yeah, let’s leave the kiddie stuff to the Cons and Big Orange Cankles. They are the experts!
You do know that the failed propaganda minister of the SD chapter of socialist reopened the septic tank? You can get your old spot back along with the rest of the floaters.
Democrats were handed a gift with the fringe extremists that we elected and the local and state gop that can’t fundraise and they are still going to screw it up.
Hurting our economy? HOW These immigrants either commit crimes that cost the taxpaper money, or when paid by employers, send all the money back to their home country. Wow. Just another gripe for the Dems to hang on.
We have been trying ask our Congressional delegation to release and hold hearings about certain well known files about an industrial scale sex trafficking operation of minors for global elites yet they do not respond. Townhalls? They avoid. Only tightly controlled appearances where they get softball questions.
What about the SDTrump Party candidates for Governor in applying pressure to release these certain well known files? One candidate the guy from Aberdeen paid for all to attend the QAnon connected movie Sound of Freedom up there and boasts that he is the closest to Trump yet he is also silent and will not give us answers.
What about South Dakota Sturdy? Do the dems care about that? I haven’t see a logo for that yet!
I’m having a tough time understanding how you are making this connection that Dems are asking for felons in prison to stay in the US regardless of citizenship. Granted, not many will actually read the letter, but it doesn’t mention felonies or the prison system once. Is this just troll bait, it isn’t of much factual value….?
I agree but this whole fuss about immigration enforcement reveals that they don’t know that employers have been cooperating with ICE for years. I worked in HR at the Morrell plant. We reported the illegal job applicants to ICE, ICE told us to hire them so they would know where to pick them up. That’s one reason the agents don’t need warrants to enter a business to carry out workplace raids. The employers cooperate with ICE because it is against the law to hire illegal immigrants.
It’s odd that so many people haven’t figured out why few, if any, employers are ever charged with violating that law. They aren’t charged because they were the ones who turned them in.
Given the way some employees behave toward ICE agents when they show up at a workplace to do their job, it’s pretty obvious they don’t know their own boss is in on it. But if they continue to assault ICE agents, the police need to be there to deal with the idiots.
It depends, doesnt it? In the scenario you described, the employers participate and illegals are removed. No problem with that on my part. But look what happened in Ottumwa, IA: 200 workers had visas revoked. They were here legally, and the feds just gutted the workforce of a business that was doing it right. There has to be a sane middle ground, right?
You’re lying! The illegal aliens were here on temporary protected status – an illegitimate TPS from the start – and were no longer protected under the TPS because IT ENDED! so, they no longer had legal status to be in our country (hence the meaning of the word TEMPORARY).
You know what will happen if they keep removing illegal aliens from work sites? Americans will take the jobs illegals were ILLEGALLY occupying just like they did in Nebraska when over 100 illegals were arrested & deported from a meat processing plant. The owner was whining about not being able to replace them and Americans “just don’t want to work” – ALL LIES. The NEXT day the lobby of the business was FILLED with AMERICANS applying for the 100 job openings.
I do wonder what is wrong with the people who believe these intentional lies pushed out in the media about illegal alien raids… somehow, none of you gullible believers ever manage to follow a story long enough to hear the truth. It does require reading beyond a headline and getting information from sources who actually wait for DHS/ICE/CBP to respond with THEIR side of the story before publishing, but accuracy and truth have never been a priority on the left.
Do you think you might POSSIBLY be discouraged from peddling your known lie – of the day – as if it were true if you bothered to seek the response from ICE/DHS? The response to accusations are just minor details, right? Why bother waiting on the facts when you can start & keeping pushing out BS?
Since you want to be a condescending jerk, as well as playing fast and loose with the facts, allow me to retort:
1) You claim, without any evidence whatsoever, that the CHNV program was “illegitimate.” Funny the Supreme Court never said that it was illegitimate. But you know better, right, you sanctimonious dork?
2) Individuals here under CHNV WERE here legally. The Trump administration then revoked it. Rather than allowing people who were here completely legally the opportunity to remain tax paying workers in the US, the deportations began immediately.
You accuse others of lying but present half baked fact patterns that leave out important details to reach a conclusion you already made. Grow up.
I must have missed the part where Mary said the CHNV was illegitimate..She said it ended. Which is true; the. Biden administration announced it was coming to a close back in October. The people who were here on the program supposed to get into another.
Temporary status is supposed to be temporary..Lots of people come in legally on tourist and student visas, TPS and so on. But if they are still here when those papers expire, they are illegal immigrants.
She literally wrote “an illegitimate TPS from the start”
well it was a bogus use of TPS because TPS is supposed to be for people fleeing religious or political persecution, not economic hardship. Anyway, it ended, under the Biden administration. Whoever was operating the autopen decided to end it
Exactly.
Pat is so desperate to for Democrats to look bad while Orange Cankles is tapdancing around the whole Jeffrey E List and cheating at golf.
You are stupid.
Let me get this straight. People are complaining that prisoners (who entered the United States ILLGALLY), committed a crime, were convicted of said crime, and incarcerated within the prison system, are being deported back to the country they came from. Please explain the logical or common sense of that thinking. You say their families are being torn about, what about the victim and families of those that the crimes were committed against.
There is an ole saying “You can’t fix stupid”. Well, if you think this way, I’m sorry but you fall into this category.
Yes, you fell for the propaganda. This article is 100% troll bait to channel more anger from the right. You guys really are gullible.

Anyone trying to justify ICE right now will be complicit in something much worse. You’ve read the history, you can see what’s happening. And they’re not being shipped back where they came from. So don’t pretend to argue about this small potatoes stuff in the prison when it’s justification for the much darker things going on. Thoughts and prayers do the gop’ers who aren’t saying no to the inhumanity. You’ll need it down the line more than anyone else.
yes we can see what is happening. Immigrants who have committed crimes are being deported. The first crime many have committed was coming her illegally or over-staying their visas. but then there are the ones who continue to break our laws after they get here. Why shouldn’t they be deported? Other countries would treat American citizens the same way
Americans are being replaced with cheap immigrant labor who are taken advantage of by a capitalist to increase his profits and nothing makes him happier than to see you morons are mad at the immigrant and not him
The influx of people who compete for jobs and housing causes wages to go down and rents to go up. Of course the business and property owners like that situation. What good does it do to get mad at them?
Don’t get mad, get even. Cut off the supply of cheap labor and high-paying tenants, wages will go up and rents will go down.
And we are well aware that illegal immigrants are coming here to take the jobs the welfare class claims don’t exist. We’re tired of supporting US citizens who don’t want to work. We’re tired of college graduates who won’t get jobs to repay the money they borrowed from us to get liberal arts degrees. Artists, historians, sociologists and philosophers are perfectly capable of working in dairies and factories to get their student loans paid off.
