Late yesterday, Ann Tornberg’s Democrat Party finally announced who they’ve got to speak at their big annual dinner tomorrow night.
No wonder they kept it under wraps, because it would have killed their ticket sales:
The South Dakota Democratic Party announced today that progressive entrepreneur Joe Sanberg and former congressional candidate J.D. Scholten will be the keynote speakers at its annual McGovern Day Banquet Dinner, set to begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Best Western Plus Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls.
“I am pleased to have two dynamic speakers at this year’s McGovern Day,” said Ann Tornberg, South Dakota Democratic Party Chair. “Both Joe and J.D. care deeply about making life better for working people in our country. J.D.’s great campaign against Rep. Steve King last year, and Joe’s nonprofit work show their energy and their dedication to making sure our country’s economy works for everyone, not just those at the top.”
Sioux Falls AFL-CIO President Kooper Caraway, State House Democratic Leader Jamie Smith, and 2018 Gubernatorial nominee Billie Sutton and will also speak at the dinner. Video greetings from several presidential candidates will be shown as well.

Bleaugh. With everyone running for president, they got a California Liberal whose claim to fame is creating a nonprofit to help “low-income families claim the state and federal earned income tax credit?” As well as the guy in Iowa who Steve King beat this last election.
Plus they get to watch videos from Bernie & Elizabeth Warren and the ilk. Again, bleaugh. The GOP has better speakers in small events this week, versus what Democrats consider their “big show” for the year.
I suspect we now know the reason for the press blackout of their speakers. If they would have disclosed this lineup at the start of ticket sales instead of the end, they wouldn’t have had any ticket sales. So much for Ann Tornberg’s final hurrah as chair.
Good for them!
I’m surprised they make so much about the biggest loser ever, George M. He set the standard for getting the crap kicked out of a candidate, was loathed by many Vietnam veterans, and his greatest legacy had to be his crybaby response when Daschle got canned. “I’ll never understand the people of South Dakota…” No kidding George, you never did.
Who are these two guys?
JD Scholten was the Dem nominee in IA-04 (western Iowa). Barely lost (roughly 3%) to Steve King in the most Republican district in Iowa.
Sounds like a “Who’s That?” instead of a “Who’s Who”. I’m surprised they aren’t asking George Soros to fund the dinner so they can pay people to attend.
What a boring line up. That said, I think South Dakota Republicans and Dems should work together to move up our presidential primary from last in the nation to right up front. It would be beneficial for both parties having the whole crop of candidates vie for our votes whether we be Republican or Democrat.
I had to look the guy up. That’s an amazingly boring lineup in a year in which there are about 47 Democrats running for president and looking for groups to speak to.
Wow… $100 a ticket to listen to a bunch of people I’ve never heard of!! It’s a pretty sad future for D’s when the biggest name they have at their banquet is Billie!
Why don’t Republicans have a state dinner any more?
they have 10-30 county dinners a year
