Flags at Half-Staff at State Capitol in Honor of Kenneth Kredit
PIERRE, S.D. – Today, Governor Larry Rhoden ordered that flags be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in honor of former state legislator Kenneth Kredit. He served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1995-1998.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am CT on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Platte Christian Reformed Church in Platte, SD.

Lowering the flag at the Capitol to half staff the day of the funeral when any former legislator dies has been standard protocol for as long as I can remember. I first knew a friend of mine who got one when their former legislator father died about 15 years ago. A family friend got one two years ago. This is standard and to belittle the Governor for honoring and respecting this tradition is inappropriate to both him and the deceased.
Anyone willing to give Ther time to serve should be honored
