Former Hansen Press flak Austin Goss asked critic to “tone down anti-Toby rhetoric,” now praised by Phil Jensen for completely sucking up to Toby Doeden.

This is kind of interesting. Former reporter, now pizza cook/candidate press agent Austin Goss had been attached to the Jon Hansen for Governor campaign.

But right after Tuesday, he got on the facebooks and started messaging Belle Fourche conservative commentator Katie Hoffman.

And if we’re to believe the messages that Katie posted, Goss supposedly asked Katie directly to “Tone down the anti-Toby Messaging for the time being.”

And within the two days since – in an act of dog-like supplication the one-time Dakota News Now and Dakota Scout reporter Goss has rolled over on his back. Supposedly because Toby offered to fly his dog to Colorado for vet treatment, and Austin thinks the legislature is now just a bunch of liberals, and South Dakota will succumb to “the economic development machine.”:

Well, at least Austin now has accolades from outgoing legislator Brandei Schaefbauer, and the eternally awful Phil Jensen.

  1. Toby is already shilling out negative ads left and right and he wants the owner of a small Facebook group to “tone down the rhetoric”? What a goober.

    1. Hansen could run for AG and have his autonomy and wield actual influence. Or he could be LG and go to ribbon cuttings.

  2. No surprise here, with the complete blowout of the Freedumbers and Hansen’s dead last finish, the last hope for a meal ticket for these shills is Toby. Larry needs to channel a little Bill Janklow after he wins: consolidate power, bring in his own team and punish those that don’t fall in line.

  3. He defends negative campaigning. Surprised, not surprised. What he didn’t mention is the deceptive campaigning. Doeden puts out flyers implying the AG and legislators are endorsing him. Yes, that was implied deception. Doeden knew what he was doing and Austin knows that works. That and the fake/no plan of eliminating property taxes is the only reason Doeden got the votes he did.

If lying and deceit are traits you can stomach in a governor then don’t complain when it continues and worsens while in office. Those traits are a hard NO for me.

Vote sanity. Vote statesman. Vote Rhoden!

  4. It’s inconceivable that district 33 keeps electing such a dumb a@@ like Jensen. Can they pull their heads out? Of course I’m sure the majority of them voted for our senile president.

  5. How many will vote for Dan Ahlers if Doeden somehow fools everyone and wins the nomination? Alhers is fairly moderate and with a solid to super majority of the legislative seats held by those who ran as Republicans the power of a Democratic Governor will be limited. The South Dakota Democratic Party left many legislative seats uncontested for the general.

Doeden winning could cause immense damage to the state of South Dakota during his time in office. It would be a heavy and huge step further towards political extremism and most disturbing it’s normalization. Think of who he would appoint to his administration.

Would you vote for Ahlers verses Doeden in the general?

    1. I will and it will be the first time in over 2 decades at least.
Why do i have this feeling that maybe this is what Toby wants. Does Toby want South Dakotans to turn the state governed by a democrat.
Trying to remember if I’ve ever seen anyone in my 56 years of voting with such an unethical past and team run for a major state office before.

  6. Mr. Goss is not just kinda funny lookin’, he’s an out-of-state funny-looker who can’t vote in South Dakota. Why Mr. Doeden consorts with such fellows is beyond the ken of some interested parties, like grudznick’s close personal friend, Lar.

    1. Even Crazy Larry Kurtz has boasting that he calling and talking to Toby Doeden advising him what to do. Toby is supposed to have a presser announcing a number of Kurtz’s ideas. Chemtrails to time travel Assasins with too many other conspiracies to mention. Birds of a feather.

  7. So Austin friended Toby, received favors, AND predicted Doeden would win a year ago…then joined team Hansen? Then immediately endorses Doeden after the primary? I smell a rat.

  8. The stain of convicted crank caller and perpetual man-child Austin Goss continues to tarnish the reputation of the Dakota Scout, and its heads Jonathan Ellis and Joe Sneve. I don’t see how their judgement and journalistic integrity can be viewed as anything other than highly questionable at best.

  9. I notice that nobody responded to Nick Nemec’s question: if property taxes are eliminated, how does Toby plan to pay for stuff?
According to my tax bill, it appears that 95% of my property tax is assessed by the school district.
Are we all going to be home-schoolers?

In one interview, Toby said he is just sure that an audit of all state expenditures will reveal waste, so much waste that property taxes will not be necessary. Is public education a waste of state money?
