From Facebook, Toby Doeden is taking some heat over his videoed comments against data centers, and claiming that it will be Californians leading Data Centers, not South Dakotans, as former State Senator Erin Tobin takes him to task over not believing in South Dakota innovation and leadership in the technology sector:

I earned the Master of Science in MIS from Arizona (Tucson), with Entreprenuership Concentration. I also have the Bachelor of Philosophy with a Computer Science Minor. I can attest that, so far at least, Toby is not against College grads. He might be opposed to misuse of our higher education system by foreign actors, or by domestic actors with a hair-brain.
Reach out. Ask him. He’s pretty good about returning messages. A real customer service hound.
Toby is anti-education and prior to his exploratory committee for congress had on his FB profile proudly state he flunked out of skool.

I don’t know much about data centers but one point is that you don’t need to reside locally to run them. You could consider that both good and bad depending on your views – it won’t bring steady jobs but it also wouldn’t import thousands of scary California liberals.
But he did have a good point that they wouldn’t hire him to run their AI tech company 😂
Liberal tech person and also dsu grad. They will create a few high paying jobs directly and plenty of support indirectly. I see no major downsides. If anything, it could promote more things to locate here.
This is the important salient point.

Hide shenanigans? If SD continues this trend towards new businesses, we are going to be left far behind the rest of the country and lose out on revenue.
