Fred Deutsch announces Candidacy for SD House

FLORENCE, S.D. (August 1, 2025) – Former South Dakota Representative Fred Deutsch announced today his intention to run for the SD House for District 4 in the June, 2026 primary election. District 4 is Grant, Hamlin, Deuel, Clark, rural Codington, and southern Roberts Counties.

In announcing his candidacy, Deutsch said “I am running because I love South Dakota and feel passionate about giving back to make it a better place to live, work and raise a family. I am extraordinarily grateful to not only live in the greatest country in the world but the greatest state in the nation.”

Deutsch cites his upbringing as the son of a Holocaust survivor who came to America with a sixth-grade education and spent his life working as a laborer as what has influenced his love of public service and education.

Says Deutsch, “This campaign is about listening to every constituent in District 4. If re-elected, I will support lower taxes and limited government, support ag and our rural communities, support our small-town public schools, and of course protect life and support traditional family values.”

Deutsch and his wife Kathleen are both retired chiropractors. They have been married for 43 years and have four daughters. He is a former president of the Watertown school board, former president of Watertown Boys and Girls Club, and former president of South Dakota Right to Life. He currently serves on the National Right to Life Board.

  1. I would like to hear his thoughts on using RTL funds to defeat 100% pro-life candidates in a primary election

      1. Whover made the comment that I oppose using SDRTL money in the primary in correct. I do not. – Fred Deutsch

        1. Ugh, a few corrected typos: Whoever made the comment that I oppose using SDRTL money in the primary is correct. I do not. – Fred Deutsch

          1. so how did it happen, to the extent that so much RTL money was spent on the 2024 primaries to defeat 100% pro-life candidates, that they didn’t have any money left over to defeat Amendment G?
The silence was deafening, and when I asked why I wasn’t seeing advertising opposing Amendment G, just a few yard signs, I was told SDRTL had blown all their money in the primaries.
Fortunately Amendment G failed without a lot of SDRTL money, which indicates that donating to SDRTL is a waste of money.
Might as well fold it up.

            1. Sir, what you heard is factually incorrect. SDRTL donated $10,000 to SDRTL PAC.

SDRTL donated many, many times that amount to defeat Amendment G.

Off the top of my head, I think monies donated to defeat Amendment G may be the largest expenditure ever made in the history of SDRTL.

              1. You conveniently left off the part where RTL and its band of anti pipeliners gave money to opponents of those who were 100% RTL supporters AND voted for sd economic development via pipeline regulations.

Not a cent more for that corrupt board of directors.

                1. I think we need more information about where the money went in the run up to the vote on Amendment G, because all I saw were a few yard signs being distributed by Doug Post, and no radio or TV advertising.
what we know is that money was used to defeat 100% prolife candidates, in the primary.
There is no doubt that the funds were misappropriated.

      1. so SDRTL is a scam, and the board of directors lets Hansen do whatever he wants with the money.

        Good to know

    1. because only retirees have the time? The legislative session is the most convenient for farmers.
If it were shifted to summer it would work for educators.
Not many people can take time off work to spend two months in Pierre.

    1. They are not chemtrails, Bonzo, they are vapor trails. I suppose you think the Chef-boy-ar dee conspiracy was true too.

    2. I would prefer to have Fred fussing about social issues than the SD National Guard shooting down passenger aircraft. If you think the FSD-MSP flight is overpriced now, wait till they have to dodge SAMs

    3. Mr. Deutsch is much worse than “imaginary chemical trails.” Mr. Deutsch is and was a member of the heinous Bone-Cracker Caucuses. The Bone-Cracker Caucuses do much damage from afar, even though the three founding members are not in the legislatures, and putting Mr. Deutsch back in there will be bad. It will be very bad.

  2. Goofy Garcia needs to have her license to practice medicine suspended, too. If she even has one. I never did figure out what her status was when she was asked about it and explained she had gone to medical school but didn’t do a residency. What did that mean? Did she graduate? Did she take and pass the USMLE?

    Goofy needs to go

    1. Rumor has it that she went to med school but couldn’t pass the boards. Also she isn’t a medical doctor, her doctorate is in basket weaving.

  3. How about none of the above until we get a non extremist candidate.

    Fred can stay retired.

Dylan can no longer make excuses for getting chores done at home. Mom will be happy.

Dylan leave stinky & foul skunk cap in the old outhouse!
    Yes mom!

  4. Much rather have a social conservative like Fred than an airplane-gunning, seat belt- banning libertarian like Dylan.

  5. While Fred might be more conservative than I am on a few topics, as a former school board member, he’s always been a proponent of education.

And – as a plus – he does not want to pass legislation to shoot down passenger planes like that goofy dipsh*t who is in the seat now.

  6. I sure miss these sane representatives.

    Bartels
    Callies
    Cammack
    Chaffee
    Chase
    Drury
    Lesmeister
    St. John
    Tordson
    Wangsness

    1. Hard NO to the “volunteer crash test dummy” who wanted to eliminate our seat belt laws plus another conspiracy driven bill to shoot down airplanes.

Hard No to the past extreme legislator that was weirdly consumed with genital checking, having legislators in our bedrooms and doctor’s offices.

We need a “normie” candidate to emerge.

  7. The fact Hansen wants Fred in the House tells me exactly why I wont be voting for him.

  8. Anonymous is the definition of a “keyboard warrior”. I wonder if he’s as tough when talking to people face to face?

    1. Everyone who doesn’t explicitly put a name is anonymous. Is there a particular one you’re calling out with this thinly veiled threat, or is it every single one of them?
