Helene Duhamel announces re-election for South Dakota Senate

Helene Duhamel announces her intent to seek re-election to the South Dakota Senate in District 32 in Rapid City.

“It is my great honor to serve and represent my fellow citizens on the big issues that impact every one of us—water, wages, workforce housing. I ask for your continued trust and support in my role in the state senate.” Duhamel continues, “I promise to work hard, listen to all sides of an issue, and do my best for the great state of South Dakota.”

The fifth generation South Dakotan and long-time broadcaster was appointed to the seat in 2019 by Governor Kristi Noem. Duhamel was elected to a full term in 2020 and was selected by her peers to serve as a Republican Majority Whip. Duhamel balances her legislative responsibilities with a full time job at the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

Duhamel serves on senate state affairs and as vice chairman of senate judiciary. She also served on the redistricting committee and the summer study on marijuana. The pro-business republican champions smart growth in Western South Dakota, consistently receiving the highest scores from Elevate Rapid City.

The 59 year old is married with three children.

  1. I’ve known Helene Duhamel since about 1981. She and her family have been building western South Dakota since before statehood. We are fortunate that she chooses to continue a family tradition that dates back to when Rapid wasn’t much more than a stage coach stop.
Fortunately the people of Rapid get that and her results at the ballot box affirm it.

PS I’m from up on the Coteau. We have the most beautiful lakes in the state, sloughs filled with pheasants this time of year, and no swamps

      1. I’m going to assume you aren’t an outdoors person. Heavy cattail sloughs are the mainstay of winter cover and protection for pheasants up on the Cocteau. We don’t have the fireweed patches that serve that purpose in places like Lyman County. Kosha (or kochia) stands are great too, but most places don’t promote or tolerate noxious weed Stands for habitat.
Most cattail sloughs are going to stand against the winter snows. The water freezes(that’s why pheasants don’t drown), and they are pheasant hotels
Welcome to South Dakota. Want to know where Mt Rushmore is too.

        1. Please start supporting our kids and stop listening to the trial lawyers association. They are out to protect their best interests, not our kids.

  2. As the both of you sit there and destroy the ability for SD kids to have equal access to both parents. But no, got to make sure the state collects on its federal dollars off child support which we all know is more when courts take away our fundamental right to be a parent.
Why not just have the government decides what’s best for every kid regardless if the parent is married or divorced. Bet you would have loved that if the state imposed its best interests on your kids.
Decent human beings don’t take away our kids ability to have a relationship with both parents. I stand by my statement. If you don’t like it, I would love to talk about in person. Don’t here much from the no votes. Probably know how evil it is and can’t come up with a good explanation.
