Well of course you could pick who is advocating for this in three guesses or less:

Seriously, facebook. I don’t ask for the crazy to be pushed into my feed. So why do you pump all the off-the-wall stuff into my algorithm?  But yes, District 3 State Representative Brandei Schaefbauer wants people to be able to take medicine for horses and sheep over the counter… just because.

Another item to research that might be useful in light of Brandei’s proposal?

There are currently no established standards for treating ivermectin poisoning, and there is no specific antidote for overdose. While many drugs have been utilized to address ivermectin toxicity, further research is needed in this area.

When I had Covid my doctor prescribed me ivermectin and I picked it up at a pharmacy because it’s a medication for humans to use, and from my understanding, one of the most widely prescribed and utilized medications in the world. I don’t know why we, as Republicans, keep repeating the Democrat talking point that it’s horse dewormer. When have you seen animal medications prescribed by an M.D. for human use?

    2. Because ivermectin’s effectiveness against covid has been continuously debunked by multiple studies. That’s why. The fact you refuse to listen and learn isnt our problem.

    3. And…..just like antibiotics we entrust a person who has 6+ years of experience to prescribe it so that you don’t have un needed side effects.

      Why don’t we just get rid of all prescriptions if this dumbass knows pharmacy. FML.

  2. Besides Brandei Scheafbauer and the other FreeDumb Caucus members that signed on to taking the COVID vaccine off the market I see Fred Deutsch did also.

    Not surprising Schaefbauer posted this. These Ding-A-Lings need to be removed and as candidates kept out of government! They scare good business opportunities away, recruitment and retention of workforce including professionals, are anti-opportunity and most of all public health hazards.

    Time to recruit and support normal candidates and purge these liabilities at the ballot box. Our future and those after us depend on it!

  3. The problem with these extremists is that it is a complete waste of time communicating or meeting with them in a respectful manner in an attempt to educate them. They are hellbent with forcing their weird and fringe agenda on others. Voter and citizen apathy is how they get into positions of power.

  5. Ms. Brandei, who has a neato name, is just insaner than most. It is almost as if this horse dewormer needs to be put on the list of mind altering drugs, just above the Demon Weed, because the Freedumb Caucus seems addicted to it. grudznick says to let them have at it. They can toke or shoot up with this horse drug all they want as long as they don’t put it in kids.

  6. my MAGA mom doesn’t use ivermectin, but she makes real hydrochloroquine from sliced lemons limes and oranges in a pot of boiling water. she got the recipe from her many online research forays. it is a wonder to behold.

    1. She’s not making hydrochloroquine. At best she’s getting a little quinine… maybe. It would be more effective to take a page from our cousins across the Atlantic and just have a gin and tonic, although I’m not sure why anybody in SD would be particularly concerned about malaria. Honestly, the amount of people that are so anti-vaccine but will happily ingest anything the see on Facebook is truly mind-boggling.

  7. Some Legislators are so unoriginal. You can literally look back 1-2 years at what is happening in Florida or Texas and what Disantis or Abbot were proposing and it’s what our Legislators are jumping on now. Florida is doing this or Texas is doing that, so South Dakota should do it too? They won’t tell you that Florida and Texas’ sales tax is over 8 percent.

  9. Come on now. These legislators are at the forefront of medical discovery. Surely they know of the effectiveness of tabasco enemas for the treatment of Covid as well. Very effective. Google it.

  11. Most anti-parasitics require a prescription. Why should ivermectin be any different? It is already available by prescription at pharmacies in South Dakota.

  12. I buy it a couple of times a year at Runnings, in a paste form loaded into a syringe, enough for a 1250 pound horse. I give it to my pets. This involves math, Lots of math.

  14. I realize that Legislators can focus on multiple issues at one time but with all of the challenges facing our State, this seems asinine that this is even on the radar.

  15. I love this era we are in, the confidence of so many people becoming their own doctor due to “research” while on the toilet from memes on facebook is incredible. By all means, please take the ivermectin for any ailment, the rest of the world found this cure and the dems just like killing people so much they want to hide it from you, and put it behind a prescription wall model. Just be careful to not let this freedom expand to things like medical marijuana or any other prescription, logic can be tough, there aren’t any facebook meme’s on that.

  16. Stomach parasites must be an absolute epidemic up there in District 3. Thoughts and prayers to all those who don’t have Ivermectin readily available to treat this epidemic.

  18. So… Ivermectin is a real and legitimate medication with a specific purpose. I don’t want politicians telling doctors they can’t write the script anymore than I want politicians writing the script themselves. Let’s leave the doctoring to the doctors.

  19. Facts: the macrolides are used for bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections. some work better than others on different things., They have anti-inflammatory, and immune modulating effects in addition to interfering with RNA. Azithromycin,
    Clarithromycin, Erythromycin and Ivermectin are all macrolides. You are delusional if you think Ivermectin is in a class all by itself; it’s not. It just works better against parasitic infections than it does against bacterial ones.

    Some studies have shown the use of macrolides in treating some viral respiratory viruses has been helpful. But the antiviral drugs Remdesivir and Paxlovid are better for Covid-19.

    You need a prescription to get the better macrolides but you can get Ivermectin over the counter which is why it was suggested as a DIY treatment for Covid-19 in the first place. It was available without making a potentially expensive trip to a clinic or over-crowded ER..
    Somehow the revelation that if you did not have access to medical care you could opt for Ivermectin as a last resort turned into a conspiracy theory about a miracle cure “THEY don’t want you to know about!”

    1. I have been unable to find the video of the 2020 White House press conference in which Dr Birx (the “scarf lady”) said that the best treatment at that time was a combination therapy of “a macrolide and a corticosteroid.”
      This might have been the origin of the Ivermectin mania. Unlike the other macrolides, Ivermectin is sold OTC in farm stores and it’s cheap.
      Too bad it isnt as effective as Zithromax and it’s
      Too bad Brain-Dead doesn’t know it’s already sold OTC
