PAC appears to have been formed to raise money for Rhoden for Governor campaign

This was an interesting PAC filing that was made recently, forming the “Strong Safe & Free PAC” as fronted by State Representative Mike Derby, and State Senator Arch Beal:

But… whoa, whoa, whoa.. (as Arch might say when poking an annoying lobbyist) there’s more. A WinRed fundraising page, complete with logo, seems to be shedding more light on the purpose of this PAC than the filing made on July 15th did:

The fundraising plea directly associates the PAC with Governor Larry Rhoden. Despite a website – www.strongsafefree.com – being listed on the filing with the SOS, the page actually leads to a currently blank GoDaddy landing page. But, this WinRed page seems to shed some light on what the two legislators intend to do with the campaign cash.

Does this mean an “official” announcement regarding the Governor jumping into the race for the seat he currently occupies might be getting closer? Could be.

  1. South Dakota wants Larry. He wins easy. Either that or he paves a path for Doeden.

    1. Ah yes. With 0 money, no team and low name id that is obviously a good resume to claim he will win easy.

      1. ….and he has never won a statewide race on top of the ticket.

        Larry and the Rhoden Rangers garnered 414 more votes than Stace Nelson so consider that in the resume too.

    2. Larry is a real threat. Hes tied with Dusty in the polls.

      He’s a Noem endorsement away from winning.

      1. A Noem endorsement does nothing. Might actually hurt at this point. If I were him I wouldn’t even ask for one.

  3. Shame on Derby and Arch. Only helping Doeden if they are trying to get Rhoden in the race. Hopefully Rhoden has good enough horse sense not to get in, get third place, and give Toby a chance.

    1. Arch and Derby have always kissed the butt of whoever they think is in power. They don’t understand Larry is a temporary Governor, just filling in. He has never been elected to this role and therefore deserves no loyalty.

  4. Cue the sighs of relief from the silent majority of voters. Common sense to get the job done. No hystrionics or upheaval required.

    1. This is crazy. The silent majority who have no idea who the hell he is? What has he done? What has he led?

  5. All these comments thinking he helps out Doeden make me giggle. They’re polar opposites in personality and leadership styles. Doeden polls single digits along with Hansen because they have little respect from the voters statewide. The real race, should the Governor run, will be Johnson and Rhoden.

  6. Where does this leave the Lt Gov? Does he do the honorable thing and ride it out with rhoden and his rangers? Does he take an alternative path, one of the 4-5 I’ve heard are being considered? Does he simply step aside and join forces again post race with his wonder twin?

    1. Well his father in law, former Governor Daugaard, endorsed Johnson already so there’s that

    3. Tony needs a job one way or another. So Lt. Gov, Mayor, Congressman, PUC Commissioner, or Minnehaha County Treasurer. Or maybe two of the five.

      I can’t believe Rhoden will actually run.

  8. This is foolish. All Rhoden does is take votes away from Dusty and gives Toby a chance to edge in with like 35% of the vote. Rhoden has no money, team, or record of success. He’s botched all three major issues in the state. Stay out
