I’m sure there will be an official press release, but reports are coming in that District 16 Republican State Representative Richard Vasgaard lost his life in a farm accident today.

Richard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was kind, considerate, and intelligent—a true public servant and a great legislator. His dedication to the people he represented and his unwavering integrity leave a lasting legacy. We are grateful for his service.
Oh my gosh— I just saw him a couple days ago! I’m in shock to hear! Praying for him and his family.
This is TERRIBLE news. Richard was a friend of mine! I just talked to him at the Turner County fair a little over a week ago. He was a thoughtful statesman who did his best to represent his district. He didn’t speak on the House floor often, but when he did, you knew to listen.
RIP my friend. Your service to South Dakota is duly noted!
