Governor Larry Rhoden Holds Record-Breaking Fundraiser;
Largest Candidate Fundraiser in History of Union Center

Union Center, SD – Last night, Governor Larry Rhoden marked the end of 2025 by breaking the record for the largest candidate fundraiser in the history of Union Center, his hometown. The fundraiser, held at the Central Meade County Community Center in Union Center, raised over $30,000 in a town of approximately 40 people. It is believed to be the largest fundraiser, per-capita, in any town in state history.

“I am grateful for this generous support,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “I’m not independently wealthy, and I haven’t been raising money for years, so every little bit helps. These are the people who know me best, and I appreciate their confidence in me to keep serving as their Governor.”

A comparable fundraiser in Sioux Falls, per-capita, would have raised approximately $150,000,000.

“I’ve been studying gubernatorial history for 20 years, and I’m not aware of any fundraiser in any town in this state that raised such a large amount of money, per-capita,” said Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen, author of The Governors of South Dakota.

The Rhoden for Governor campaign looks forward to building on this momentum and other strong fundraising results to close out 2025.

“2025 was a great year for South Dakota! In 2026, we will continue to keep South Dakota strong, safe, and free. Happy New Year!” concluded Governor Rhoden.

    1. It’s to much money to be endearing. And to little to be impactful.

It’s also a meaningless made up stat. For all we know people from Rapid were there.

But it also makes you wonder why his cabinet didnt dig deeper in Pierre.

  1. This makes the campaign look weak. It’s a comically bad self-satire. Who advised him to do this? They should be fired immediately.

    1. Feels like Tony had his fingers in this one. Bad advice. Take your $30k and move ahead quietly. Nobody is impressed by it and tbh I think most people think this is dumb. I was always told ‘how you do the small things is how you do the big things’. This is not done well. Amateur hour.

      1. That’s the difference between a grateful, humble governor who appreciates the campaign money raised and haughty high rollers who just talk, talk.
Also why is it so shameful for him to have a fund raiser? Candidates do it all of the time and some without any hosts.
As far as acquainting no raises for teachers but having a fund raiser , what do you want him to do? How about the other 3? Are they having fund raisers for themselves? What would the fast talkers do if they were currently Governor? Easy to talk if a person is not in office .They can make promises they never ever intend to keep.

    1. Agree. I find it humorous, enlightening and humbling all at the same time. Small town pride which most people can’t understand. On the flip side, you know what they say; any advertising that creates a buzz, even if negative, is GOOD advertising. Mission accomplished apparently.

  2. I’m starting to doubt the honesty of Pat’s reporting. I don’t see this being reported on outside of this blog.

    1. It is not only notable that a town of 40 people would produce 2 politicians, but that Larry Rhoden would be the less popular of the two.

  3. You fellows are just mean spirited and as jealous as spurned east river women, and the Rhoden Rhangers are clearly generous as all heck.

    1. You are so right, Grudznick! Lots of jealous people here. Otherwise, why would they waste their time trying so hard to criticize a good man? Everything reported is fact so anyone else who is jealous just keep pouting and spewing nonsense. Go Governor!

  4. Y’all wanted the Supreme Court decision re Citizens United Now y’all gotta live with it Big money runs amok Thank you GOP/MAGA
