That was quick. Anyone want to be a City Commissioner?

From the City of Brookings website:

The Brookings City Council is now accepting applications for the soon-to-be vacant City Council Member position left by Council Member Scott Meyer’s resignation. The appointment term would be from February 10, 2016 – April 30, 2016. Applicants must be a Brookings resident for a minimum of six months and registered to vote in Brookings.

Read (and apply) here.

Meyer just won the seat in April of this year, and would have been sworn in at the July meeting, so that was a brief tenure.

  1. I can certainly see why Scott Meyer might scare old duffers, but passionate, engaging, and intelligent guys like that tend to be in high demand. I’ve not heard his reasons yet, but I suspect he got a better offer. If that’s the case, Brookings just got a little stupider and a little more backward.

    1. What does his being on the city council have to do with “scaring old duffers” or any of it? Are you that negative? Remind me not to cross the bridge you live under, for fear of my children getting eaten.

      1. Let’s put it this way, Mr. Meyer did not owe his election to old duffers. He’s a pretty progressive-leaning sort of fellow.

  2. It is hard to make a living in this state if you are not well-connected to the political machine. Forward-thinking people like Scott Meyer are more appreciated (and valued) outside the borders of South Dakota. Good luck to Scott and his family.

    1. If you are having a hard time making a living in this state, you probably are not getting the skills you need in order to compete in this world. My daughter just took a job in this state. She is 23 and going to make north of $60K. My son took a job in this state recently. He is making north of $50k. My daughter-in-law is making over $80K at a career she entered four years ago. The reason they are getting these jobs is because they have done the work it takes to become qualified for the positions that they want and pay well.

Apparently still time enough to make the dumbest comment of the year…

  3. “It is hard to make a living in this state if you are not well-connected to the political machine.

    What a crock of sh*t.

There are plenty of people who make a good living in South Dakota who have nothing to do with politics.
