A timeless message that’s still relevant for today’s legislature, even 129 years later.
It was a blurb next to information I was looking at about my latest political purchase.
And darned funny.
At that time the state constitution didn’t give the Governor the power to limit the scope of the special session to certain topics. Once the session began, legislators could take up any legislation on any topic. So I’m guessing the “pledge” would have been some attempt to voluntarily limit the scope.
