  1. Hey Senator Thune, your counterpart across the aisle just threw you and your party a bone by agreeing publicly to reopen the government if your party would just agree to continue the current subsidies for one year. It’s not a negotiation of policy, but just a continuation of the status quo for one more year. Quit playing games and politics with SNAP and other needed government services and benefits and open the government so everyone can get back to working for the American people.

    1. The Democrats want the subsidies extended for just one more year going up to the 2026 elections.
Sure. Just one more year . Only one more year.,
If you think it’s just going to be one more year, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
Obamacare has failed and the Democrats just don’t want to admit it. This is on them.

As for SNAP benefits, I stopped by the local food pantry to drop off a donation and had the most interesting conversation. It seems that their clientele doesn’t know what to do with raw ingredients.,They don’t even know how to make green bean casserole. They’re so accustomed to MREs they don’t know what to do with basic ingredients. and they blow their food stamps on pre-prepared food. It was an eye-opener for me.
I have been on food stamps twice in my life, and always had plenty left over at the end of the month, because I used them to acquire basic ingredients. This generation doesn’t know how to cook.
I’m going to start donating things like flour, shortening, dried beans and rice. If they’re really hungry they’ll figure out what to do with that stuff.

    2. Explain to us all about how the ACA was supposed to bring down the cost of medical insurance…so then why is a subsidy needed?

      1. exactly. The ACA is an epic failure. Time to end it and let market forces create a reset.
It will be painful at first.

  2. ACA was intended to enable millions of more Americans to be covered by health insurance through plans offered on the federal exchanges and expanded Medicaid. Income-based subsidies were always part of the ACA which has worked well in getting many millions covered. It also ended egregiously bad insurance company practices such as denial of coverage of preexisting conditions. Another positive was lessening the frequency of medical bankruptcy. Citizens like the ACA, Obamacare, not so much. Go figure!

    1. Again, it was supposed to make health insurance more affordable. Then why is the subsidies necessary? Or was this the intent when the claim of more affordable was made, to make it affordable through subsidies?

  3. It was made more affordable for the less affluent and those not covered by employer-sponsored health plans by the subsidies. The less an individual’s income, the greater the subsidy.

        1. I have pre-existing conditions too. That’s why I had to be careful when I changed jobs. I also had to be careful about how I took care of myself, to avoid exacerbations. My health is my responsibility. It was the Clinton administration which made coverage portable so that we could change jobs without losing coverage. That wasn’t the ACA. The ACA made it possible for people to go without health insurance until they got sick, and then buy it. That was nuts.

    1. Republicans-Failing-To-Rename-Their-Shutdown-Because-Nobody-Believes-It’-Democrats-Fault-DAY-38. Fixed it.

      1. INTERESTING TO NOTE: “60 Minutes” first story Sunday night is about how Trump’s tariff-and-money-for-other-dictators-plan is growing farm bankruptcies in the US. If only we had a TV Time Machine to let people see that story in Summer 2024. OH WAIT VP Harris predicted it loud and clear every day of her campaign. Never mind.

        1. VP Harris could not predict or articulate ANYTHING. Her performances in front of the cameras, the word salads, the inappropriate laughter, were ridiculous. I thought Lindy Li’s assessment, that she is an intelligent woman but when she’s in front of cameras “her brain melts,” was very interesting.
It was obvious that something is wrong with her. That was all the public saw.
She continues to claim that Biden was competent. Add this to other things the Democrats espouse, like the idea people can change their genders, babies aren’t humans and Jews should be exterminated, and more and more people are waking up to the fact that the Democrats have completely lost their minds.
