Thune: Schumer Shutdown Day Six
“[F]or the sake of the American people, I hope at least a few more Democrats will join us to pass this clean, nonpartisan CR and let the Senate get back to work.”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor:

“When you point one finger, three fingers point back at you”
Drag it out to the deadline and this is what happens.
This is all on the Dems and the brain damaged Chucky Schumer.
I bet you’re the kind of person that thinks it’s a woman’s fault when her husband beats her.
They’re eating the dogs!!
They’re eating the cats !!
Brain dead indeed.
And you believed it.
I get that Thune and company want an America back that is WHITE, MALE, and RICH. Those Americans that aren’t that can just go away. However, he forgets he is to represent EVERYONE. Some people need help in life. Taking away their affordable health care is not the answer. Thune should be ashamed.
It was the Democrats who voted for the ACA with its built-in expiration date.
If the states want to continue to enroll people who qualified under Medicaid expansion, they can go ahead and do that.
Since SD only recently expanded Medicaid, just 2 years ago, we will probably not even notice the difference. I really doubt the streets will be littered with the bodies of people who have to go back on their employers’ insurance plans.
STILL THE TRUMP REPUBLICAN SHUTDOWN.
Not buying your crap sir.
Polling says that a solid plurality aren’t buying Trump and Voughts crap.
The Democrats aren’t going to vote for the funding plan that makes Trump’s wishlist happen. The threats about what will happen to the US if Democrats don’t relent are empty threats: Trump has already been doing the agency closure, firings, etc. He’ll just do what he wants to do whether Democrats get on board or not. UPSHOT: Republicans stand naked before us, bragging about their smartly tailored new suits. Repent.
but the Democrats’ prediction that people are going to DIE if they have to pay for health insurance are believable?
They’ll die if the financial structure of health care causes mass hospital and clinic closure and other curtailment of care. Your screeching distortion of the issue into utter falsehood is noted.
The expiration of the Medicaid subsidy was built into the ACA. The idea was that states would expand Medicaid coverage, and the federal government would subsidize the additional cost, until they didn’t, and then the states were on their own.
FOR THIS REASON, ten states, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas,,Mississippi, South Carolina,Tennessee, Texas Wisconsin and Wyoming never took the bait..They never expanded Medicaid to begin with, so nothing will change in those states.
Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Utah and Virginia have trigger laws which will automatically terminate the expansion when the federal subsidy ends. (Ohio’s law actually ends it if the subsidy is reduced, not just ends.) Everybody who lives in those states knows this would happen, and had plenty of chances to elect new leaders to their legislative bodies to change those trigger laws, if they wanted to..
And Idaho, Iowa and New Mexico have trigger laws which require the states to “do something” when the subsidy ends. The residents of those states also had plenty of elections in which to address the matter.
Everybody who was paying attention when the ACA was passed 15 years ago knew this day would come. The Democrats voted for it. Perhaps it never occurred to them the Republicans would be running the show when the money stopped. Perhaps they assumed the states would happily cover the additional cost when the subsidies ended. Or maybe they didn’t read the ACA before they voted for it. Reading is hard..
Let’s just let it all end then. Good talk.
