Thune: Voter ID Is a Commonsense Standard Americans Expect
“You need a photo ID to see a doctor, stay at a hotel, start a job. It’s not too much to ask to require it when you go in to vote.”
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor:

Most states already require voter ID. It’s disingenuous for him to keep making this statement, like that’s what the bill is about. I’m so sick of Thune & Rounds thinking we’re all just dumb little lemmings back here in S.D.
“Most” but certainly not all. This bill isn’t focused on voting irregularities “back here in South Dakota”.
It’s disingenuous for you to make this statement, like that’s what the bill is about.
Sorry I wasn’t clear on my larger point – the bill is not about voter ID. Not in the way Thune makes it sound like it is. But I think you knew that. You just wanted to do a “gotcha” {eye roll}
Then be more clear.
Want cheese with that whine?
Would you like a Midol to go along with that tampon?
You’re too lame to get it so I’ll just tell you it’s the middle one.
AAAAWWWW…did I trigger you little fella?
Little fella? More like little girl.
Certain states issue drivers licenses to illegals, which are then used to vote. ID’S aren’t enough anymore sadly.
19 states and DC allow issuance of drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. Not a single state, nor the federal government, allows these drivers licenses to be used for federal identification, voting, or firearm registration. You are absolutely full of shit.
Liar.
A solution trying to find a problem.
The objections from the democrats are idiotic. They are the ones who enacted the individual mandate for health insurance, so by law everybody has to have a health insurance identification card, Now they claim there’s all these people who don’t have any identification. Makes no sense..They included mandatory health insurance identification cards for everybody, now say it’s too hard.
There’s no such thing as a “health insurance id” card. Even if there were, it wouldnt be sufficient to vote under the new law. What in the actual hell are you talking about?
how do you access health care without presenting your insurance card? The providers want the card. They also want your photo ID to make sure you aren’t using someone else’s insurance. Prior to that, people who didn’t have health insurance would borrow a siblings or roommate’s insurance card to access health care they couldn’t pay for. I was unaware of this practice until I worked in case management for workers’ compensation.
The investigators can actually pull up every injury a person has ever had (sort of like CarFax) anywhere in the country to see if a body part has been injured before. Couldn’t believe the number of times someone would say “that wasn’t me, I let someone else use my insurance.” I really loved learning that the insurance was Medicaid, and the person using the insurance card wasn’t eligible for Medicaid..
I guess the practice became sufficiently widespread that healthcare providers want the photo ID now..
So, whether you think you need health insurance or not, by law you have to have it, that means you get an ID card, but you will not be able to use it if you don’t have a photo ID.
What this means is, the Democrats were perfectly ok with requiring us all to have photo IDs to to maintain our health and live longer, and did not concern themselves that somebody might delay getting cancer screenings and such for lack of a photo ID, but they are horrified that somebody might not be able to vote..The Democrats don’t care if people are dead or alive, as long as they can vote..
“They also want your photo id..” You literally just admitted there is no such thing as a “health insurance identification card,” you goddamn dense dingus. I’m further perplexed as to why you believe health care organizations didnt attempt to identify patients they provided care to prior to the passage of the affordable care act. Finally, you still havent produced evidence of this large scale voter fraud you keep obliquely referencing, because it doesnt exist.
It’s infuriating to try and debate with someone who clearly has no grasp of the facts at issue.
And that was the moment Cletus discovered that all his Fox News watching had broken his brain and left him stupid.
Cletus found out he didn’t like being stupid, and he slowly realized that he could fix that stupidity by shutting off Fox and seeing what other information was out there.
Over time Cletus found that he was far less stupid, but it wasn’t easy. He discovered it wasn’t something someone else could do for him, or that he could do for someone else. People could indeed only fix their own stupidity.
People laughed and made fun of Cletus, to shame him into returning to Fox News, but Cletus knew then that their job was to keep him stupid, and he SIMPLY IGNORED THEM.
It’s like he can’t come up with his own thoughts anymore… Oh wait that’s actually a straight fact.
My understanding is that the Real ID drivers license we had to get to be eligible to fly on airplanes would not work for this SAVE act. We would need something they called an Enhanced ID which only a few states have issued (Minnesota, Michigan and a few others). The Enhanced ID proves you are an American citizen and lets you get into Canada/Mexico without a passport. Is this correct? Also if you are already registered to vote would you have to register. Asking for a friend.
This is my understanding as well. The SAVE act is much stricter than the voter ID laws in SD.
On my comment above that should say reregister.
They weren’t able to prove any significant voter fraud in those 60 court cases challenging the 2020 election, because it didn’t exist. It was a humongous lie. So, what is this about?
Poor and minority CITIZENS are much less likely to afford or carry IDs.
Obviously, Republicans in Washington think these folks are inclined to vote for Democrats already. But after they are done taking away healthcare coverage and removing safety nets from poor and minority Americans… I can see why they might want even fewer of them to vote.
Makes sense.
