Really? Sometimes there’s legislation that leaves no doubt that we are going to hear a lot of crazy this year.

How many of you have reached out to your state legislator to tell them “I think we need to establish a new state currency based on gold or silver.” Show of hands?
We can’t figure out how to keep pace with state law on funding education this year, but we are wasting time & effort on this bag of goofiness?
Seriously.

Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution prohibits states from “entering into treaties, coining money, passing bills of attainder or ex post facto laws, impairing contracts, granting titles of nobility, or, without congressional consent, levying tonnage duties, keeping troops in peacetime, or engaging in war.”
Essentially, it restricts states from exercising powers reserved for the federal government, ensuring national unity and preventing interstate conflicts over fiscal and military matters.
Considering every legislator vows to uphold the Constitution, I suggest he withdraw this bill posthaste.
I’m sure the federal government won’t have any problem at all with South Dakota attempting to create its own currency
Guarantee Carley’s argument will be “other states are already doing this.” He wins my vote for most unoriginal legislator. I’m sure it will be Wyoming is already doing this or Florida is going to do this. Case in point when he talks property taxes his undeniable man crush oozes for Desantis. Desantis is doing this, Desantis is doing that, Desantis is getting rid of property taxes in Florida. What he won’t tell you is that Florida’s sales tax is already 2 percent higher than South Dakota’s before Desantis even tackles the property taxes issue in his states.
These folks certainly won’t advertise that Wyoming has 21 data centers including the $1.2 billion facility in Cheyenne. Also extensive Carbon Sequestration projects including the new pipeline from Nebraska to Wyoming. They also won’t tell you that Florida has 107 data centers as well as a large carbon sequestration footprint in their state. The grass is always greener in other states for California Carley and he’s maybe been here for 5 years?
Exactly! This clown needs to get out
Just look at the sponsors of this bill. I’ve heard many of them to proclaim to be “constitutionalists”. As if they’ve ever read it. How they got elected still escapes me but their districts need to do better. This level of stupidity is beyond the pale. Time wasters every one of them, and therefore taxpayer dollar wasters.
Uh, I’m asking for it. It’s a good bill.
Guess we know now who is voting for these idiots. Thanks for identifying yourself. Just because you wish something could happen, or wish something were true, doesn’t make it so. This bill is unconstitutional, therefore it is a waste of everyone’s time. If it were to pass, it would be struck down by the courts. Again, wasting everyone’s time and money. It is a bad bill, brought by some of the most ignorant legislators ever to walk the capitol halls.
What will this cost the state to stand up this new currency program? Would like to see the fiscal note on this. I also find it quite ironic that California Carley is trying to stand up a currency system based on precious metals while simultaneously trying to shut down a mining operation in his district that went through the correct process and is rightfully legal to operate on PRIVATE property. Does he think the tooth fairy just brings gold and silver. And didn’t he just drop a resolution that failed that wanted Government to stay out of the way of Private Business? I don’t think the mine is asking for a TIF or Government handouts. The same session where meaningless water conservation resolutions are coming to protect the Black Hills from evil mining operations. It’s very similar to those Legislator from the Freedom Caucus who are pushing for crypto currency but anti data centers. Do they think Elon just magically shits out Eretheum? This is wild and all over the board for sure.
The 1991 Mt Rushmore $5 gold coin was legal tender authorized by Congress anyway
And produced by the US Mint. What’s the point you’re trying to make?
it’s 90% gold, 21.6K legal tender
Isn’t this being pushed down from the King, we must abandon the central bank because it could negatively impact the wealth hordes held by him and his billionaire friends? Gold is more stable, can’t be tracked or taxed as easily, and is limited in supply.
