During my trip to DC over the past few days, hands down one of the coolest things I had the good fortune to see yesterday was Senator Thune’s Majority Whip office. And it’s a darned cool office. Why? Let me point out the ways..
Just starting in the hallway outside Senator Thune’s office in the Capitol, you’ve got art that varies from a massive commemoration of the battle of Lake Erie…
…to a sculpture of Gerald Ford:
If you step in the outer office…
…you find it immediately dominated by Murdo, the very prominent Bison mount:
The inner office is even more visually spectacular with the reverse of the stained glass window which depicts the US Senate Seal:
As well as a commemorative plaque for when President Kennedy resided in the room:
With Thune’s position comes the marking of the ceiling with the seal of his home state – which knowing the original as well as I do, I can tell you this is a near perfect rendition of the original seal by John Moisan which is currently hanging in the Secretary of State’s office:
Here’s another view of the inner office for Senator Thune’s Capitol workplace while the Senate is in Session:
It was great to get to peek in and see where some of the business of the US Senate gets done off the floor! Thanks again to Senator Thune’s office for the tour!
Here are some of the people who once worked for Senator Jim Abdnor.
Senate Majority Leader Senator John Thune (Legislative Aide & Deputy at SBA), Senator Rounds (in-state driver), David Bockorny (Assistant to President Reagan or GHWB and a personal invitee to President Trump’s Election Victory Party), Stephen Censky (Deputy Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and effective COO of Ag), John Hamre (Deputy Secretary of Department of Defense). There are others who slip my mind but I ask: Can you name a South Dakotan whose protege’s have had a bigger impact on the national stage?
I know I will get beaten up for stating this, and taking nothing away from Sen. Thune who I like, Sen. Tom Daschle worked for(even though it was his political campaigns) for Sen. George McGovern. Tom was minority and majority leader of the US Senate.
Can you name one accomplishment any of the above has generated? I guess Thune played basketball but did he ever have a real job? I didn’t think so. He’s just a member of the good ole boys club. Thune gains power in the Senate only because of seniority and only because SD is a very small state where intellect and brains don’t matter, only the membership into the CLUB, and keeps voting him into office.
Senator Thune is also the Senate Majority Whip- not the Majority Leader who is currently Sen. Mitch McConnell.
