I think we can safely say that this event last night was easily South Dakota’s Worst Election Watch Party Ever:

If you went, would you get stuck by JFM (sorry, JFM’s evil twin), Phil, or Bialota? And you know that Brandei probably had to pick up Shad’s check.

Bunch of extreme wing nuts.
What a fun bunch!
I hope Gov Rhoden goes full Janklow now and punishes their districts for electing them. Highway fixes, water funding, grants, appropriations: they go to the bottom of the priority list on every single thing. They preach less government, give them what they’ve asked for.
So you want Rhoden to be like Trump? Got it.
Was Janklow like Trump? I don’t get what you’re saying here.
You want the governor to abuse his power in order to punish voters?
Kind of like an early Free Speech alt crackerbarrel without a mic
The poster children for irrelevancy.
Finally, there is an adequate visual image of Hillary’s “deplorables”.
Hahaha, perfect caption!
Hahahaha 🙂 Good one.
Wow, 14 people interested…and they all showed up! Bravo!
Hopefully this marks the end of an era. Citizens for Liberty and its misguided scorecard have divided Republicans for far too long. Here’s to turning the page and focusing on what unites us. The reign of the crazies is over.
It’s not that easy – there isn’t a vacuum of their absence – they have to be SHOVED ASIDE in a way that is not unclear.
Amen!
nightmare blunt rotation
I was thinking nightmare Dakota Town Hall guest gallery. LOL
Odd that Baxter wasn’t there, too.
Wasn’t she busy with Tonchi hand counting 100 percent of Pennington County’s ballots? They were extremely excited about hand counting at their fake debate/Toby Doeden Citizens For Liberty rally. Oh wait, that’s not allowed per current SDCL.
Doubtful hand counting will find 50,000 new votes for Mr. Doeden. Crushed by 50,000 votes.
Rhoden laughing. Rhoden laughing.
Hand counting wouldn’t find any new votes. In fact hand counting that many votes leaves a lot of room for human error.
Was Luke the applicant for Doeden’s LT under the table?
I feel more ignorant for having seen this photo.
I don’t know, I think it could have been kind of fun to watch these guys as the results came in.
The response of every single bystander who happened to walk by that collection of imbeciles:
“What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points (or votes), and may God have mercy on your soul.”
you see crazy people, and so do I. but how did they get so crazy? political extremism and conspiratorial thinking stem from losing access to three core human needs: security, significance, and connection. people turn to fringe groups and rabbit holes only after personal trauma, loss, or systemic failure strips away their grounding in consensus reality.
i see people enjoying themselves, uniting over something they believe in, and creating security, significance, and connection.
how can we bring them back?
This is a thought provoking post and asks a good question. It’s tough to break into the echo chambers and pull people out of the tribalism mindset. I think you have to start with someone that is willing to have dialogue with them that is open and honest. Someone that is grounded but willing to consider their point of view and see things from their perspective. We need to stop dismissing each other out of hand and attacking on social media, and acknowledge that there is a reason they reached the point they are at. A lot of their concerns were/are valid, but they have been taken to extreme ends and they have become alienated. There needs to be some mutual respect shown. It’s going to have be someone patient that will be able to take some abuse because I think even sincere attempts at discourse are going to be turned away for awhile until some trust is built.
I like the different view you’ve taken on this issue.
wrong person won with help of the far left here in SD
71%? Ya, right. Doeden’s bunch just can’t stand losing. They have to blame somebody. Calling everyone a RINO is also really stupid. Blaming the 62 people in the “far left” doesn’t cut it either. The Democrats I talked to who switched parties to vote said they voted for Doeden because he was an easy mark.
Not true. All who I know, felt that in this overwhelmingly red state, the primary winner would probably be Governor, because it has become impossible to run as a Democrat here. The notion that Democrats felt like trying to be some kind of uber-game-player and do a double headfake because electing Doeden would give Ahlers an easy win path – that notion feels wrong on every level. Democrats tend not to waste their votes on games, much as their opponents might wish it. It’s serious business.
OK I AM WALKING THIS BACK – I have been told that many of the switching Dems DID want Doeden to be selected, as an easier mark for Ahlers to take down in the Fall. This only means Doeden’s overall support by the regular GOP and many wingnuts was even lower than indicated by the result. Ok then.
Interesting theory. So the ‘far left’ somehow convinced 83,582 Republicans to vote for Larry Rhoden? That’s quite the superpower.
That ‘excuse’ might have worked if it wasn’t a landslide victory.
Lol. It was a landslide. What so couple of thousand switched parties (or went from independent to Republican). Rhodes won by WAY MORE THAN THAT. Face it, Doeden and his posse aren’t as popular as they claim to be (thus why many lost their primary). Most South Dakotans have common sense. Something that was severely lacking in the Doeden camp.
The only question left is who actually agreed to be Doeden’s LG????
Julie Frye-Mueller front and center with RCs wingnuts.
That’s not Julie Frye-Mueller. We all know JFM cannot function without Mike and if he’s not there, then it must be Jodie
