Wow. Cardinals select first American Pope.

While not unwelcome, kind of unexpected. The College of Cardinals has selected an American to become the next pope:

Pope Leo XIV, the American Robert Prevost, said “Peace be with you” in his first words as pope, offering a message of peace and dialogue “without fear.”

From the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica, history’s first American pope recalled he was an Augustinian priest, but that he was above all a Christian and a bishop, “So we can all walk together.”

    1. I’m sure The Don is extremely disappointed. He simply can’t bear it when someone else is the center of attention — even if just for a moment.

  1. Does he pass the muster of the SD state GOP scorecard?
Maybe a letter should be drafted by our chairman.

    1. One of the most revered authorities of today’s SDGOP and Trump administration is Laura Loomer and she has claimed that he is a WOKE MARXIST POPE so there you have it.

  2. Does it make sense for a group who identify as Christians to disparage a pope who is encouraging all of us to do what Jesus commands? One would have to look pretty far and wide to find a historical figure who was more “woke” than Jesus Christ. And if you hate “woke,” does that also mean that you hate Jesus?

  3. In a time where cruelty is fashionable, kindness is now woke. Says terrible things about us as people.

    1. Matthew 16:18 covers it, Jesus designated Peter as his successor. Peter was the rock upon which the church would be built. Peter assumed the leadership role among the followers of Jesus and his actions were described in the Acts of the Apostles. The etymology of the word “pope” derives from the Greek words for father or patriarch.

      1. In chapter two of Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he very clearly states that while he (Paul) was the apostle to the Gentiles, Peter was the apostle to the Jews. Peter was not the leader of the church, he was apostle to the Jews.

  4. Christ left us a Church with a leader named Peter, succeeded by Linus, Cletus and 30 more through Sylvester I. It was this Church under the leadership of Popes which spread the Gospel under threat of death by the Roman Empire and they did so without a Bible.

The Church led by Pope Sylvester began the process of canonizing the Bible which was concluded by Pope Damasus 1 (three other Popes between the two). Prior to the canonization of the Bible, Christians learned about Jesus by attending the Mass, reading of Old Testament Scripture, and whatever letters or Gospels available to that congregation. Once the Bible was canonized, it was Catholic Monks in monasteries which hand-wrote copies of the Bible.

So, I ask all my separated Christians, what would you know about Jesus Christ without His Church whose earthly leader has been Popes which canonized the Bible and copied by hand copies of the Bible for distribution?

While our Bible did not drop from the sky but came from the Catholic Church, it does reference the office of the Pope here:

Mathew 16:18-19: Made Peter the head of the Church
Luke 10-16: Christ says who ever listens to Peter listens to Christ and who rejects Peter rejects Christ and His Father who sent Christ.
Luke:31-32: Christ makes it clear he is placing special responsibility in Simon/Peter to preserve the faith of others
John 21:15-17: After Christ’s Resurrection, Christ made it clear He wanted Peter to be the Supreme Shepherd
Acts 15:1-23: Specifically, in 6-9, Peter rose exerted his authority
1 Peter 5:1-4: Peter again instructs the Church leaders how to be shepherds
