Are Democrats going to start a movement to dump Jay Williams? Or are they going to embrace the crazy?

I think my mouth is still agape after listening to the interview the Argus Leader did with Democrat’s “If no one else will do it” Senate candidate Jay Williams yesterday. Because I don’t think I can ever recall hearing a candidate promoting the views that he did.

And some of it was so crazy, that you have to question whether Democrats are going to start a movement to dump him?

williamsThere’s so much that was said that was just utterly off the wall, I’m not sure where to start.  But, I’ll give it an attempt.

Williams didn’t exactly deny that he was the “If no one else would do it” candidate, but he preferred to call himself the “if you can’t find a better known” candidate.   I’m not sure that’s any better.

From there, we quickly moved into the Jay Williams tax plan where Williams went on about how South Dakota has “no income tax” and said “We’re undertaxed in South Dakota,,, an Income tax would be a good way to go.

Williams also brought up his views on the Dem’s presidential candidates, and reiterated previously stated thoughts about Bernie Sanders, noting “I DO think he’s a moderate. He’s not a European Liberal, He’s ab American Liberal…. He’s a progressive guy is what we say.”

(Bernie Sanders a Moderate? Brrr…. I’d hate to see a real liberal then. – pp)

Williams also made note regarding himself that he’s “always been a Liberal.”   To which I would not have grounds to argue with him. From there he moved deeper into the weird and politically unfathomable. Especially where it comes to fossil fuels. Because Williams directly advocated for stopping any expansion of infrastructure for the transport of fossil fuels – and directly stated that “the transport of fossil fuels is a problem.”

Worse yet, when asked if his platform would be to rid ourselves of fossil fuels, he replied “of fossil fuels? YOU BET!”

jaywilliams_propotHe went on to advocate a program of “government subsidies so everyone could put photo-voltaic cells on their roofs.”   Yes. He wants to create a brand new Obama-roof program. WOW.  Of course, he also advocated “eliminating coal” from the production of electricity in this country entirely citing “wind, solar and ocean tides.”   Because South Daktota’s energy needs will be served well by ocean tides?  Again, wow.

Lest he leave it out, Williams also weighed in on cap & tax for carbon credits, citing “Cap & trade..is a pretty good idea.”

When asked about legalizing marijuana for recreational use, Williams directly stated that “Drugs are not criminal…..it’s a mental health problem.”  And that “recreational marijuana is a thing that’s going to happen, so South Dakota should do it sooner than later.”

By this time, we were fully in the twilight zone, so it came as no surprise when Williams advocated increasing gas taxes by $1 a gallon, when prompted by the interviewers. Williams directly stated “I think that’s a pretty good number…. I’d propose a tax to not let it get below a certain number.

A candidate who is for legalizing pot, a state income tax, eliminating oil and coal from the national energy infrastructure, and wanting to raise prices in gasoline by at least $1 per gallon or more –  you’re left asking whether Democrats going to start a movement to dump Jay Williams? Or are they going to embrace the crazy?

Because there’s no way the public at large is going to accept a candidate espousing such utter lunacy as making everyone get an electric car or tractor, making us all get Obama-roofs, and shutting down petroleum production in this country.

If Democrats are serious about competing in the US Senate contest this year, they’d be best served by finding someone – anyone – who isn’t so ridiculously out on the fringe of far-left liberal thinking. Because what they’ve got right now will just leave voters with dropped jaws every time he opens his mouth.

Seriously, go listen to the interview here, and you can judge for yourself.

  1. Is he for real? Does he really believe he can win, or even a respectable showing?
He is like a train wreck, you know you should look away….

  2. I wouldn’t leave my children alone with a whack-job like this. To know that he calls Sanders a moderate is all you need to know about this guy.

  3. “you’re left asking whether Democrats going to start a movement to dump Jay Williams? Or are they going to embrace the crazy?”

Williams fits right in with the current group of SD Democrats that are in leadership, most vocal or are running for some office in the state. November is going to bad for them. Real bad!

  4. He is for real and this likely a pretty honest and accurate portrayal of his political views.

    1. Scared? Competition is good for everyone and makes us all better including those competing and serving in public office. The SDDP is self-destructing. There is no competition. They are selling to the wrong market. Perhaps California, Seattle or Portland but not South Dakota.

    2. It can add up over 11 years. And I don’t think Thune knew they’d end up with this goof. Scared, I doubt. Prepared, yes.

  5. “making everyone get an electric car or tractor.” I just love it when the libs promote getting an electric vehicle to save the planet. Just where do they think electricity comes from to keep the power running in these lovely little electric cars???? You can’t make this stuff up!

  6. What happened to Williams’ friend around here who described Williams as a great guy? Too embarrassed to speak up in his defense anymore?

“And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. ” Luke 22.

Christians who deny their friends in troubled times should go away and weep. How about a demonstration of such repentance?

  7. The fact that you think he’s crazy, Powers is proof positive he’s on the right track. Of course you disagree. You’ve been on the wrong side of history so many times you stare at orange juice just because it says concentrate. lol

    1. “you stare at orange juice just because it says concentrate.” Even though I never agree with anything you say, I have to admit this is funny.

    2. Porter, Funny! I’d gladly place a little wager with you on just how bad Williams will get beat if your were not such a nut.

    3. I could see Jay and ole Porter smokin that Colorado stuff in Jay’s electric car stuck on the hwy out of juice not knowing whats going on.

    4. I find it rather unsettling how this Williams guy is being vilified as “crazy” and “wouldn’t let him near my kids” and “even strippers have standards”.

Let’s discuss his views by all means, but that doesn’t make him crazy or dangerous around kids or a guy strippers avoid. (I’ve never met him, btw).

From doxxing, to revenge blogs, to his vanishing friends piling on the crazy train…where’s the humanity?

Ask Kirk Ludwig of Fargo, ND, who took a picture near the city pool, and was quickly vilified as a pervert after some “concerned parent” posted a photo of Kirk on facebook, and questioned his motives with hundreds of self-righteous rock throwers & mindless vigilantes joining in with threats of harm. For Kirk, it became a nightmare within 3 hours.

It’s just not very Christian, is it? How about a day or two of thoughtful and silent repentance?

  8. What? Because I keep a home in CO you assume I smoke marijuana? I don’t, friend. That’s weak extrapolation from an even weaker mind. Similar to assuming because you live in SoDak you’re a “settler” and you only eat jackrabbit pie and greywater soup. Only 14% of Colorado residents use cannabis, amigo. The rest of us just enjoy the tax money. Any other insults for me, haybilly? #MicDrop

    1. You boasted that you smoked marijuana months ago. Now you deny it? Memory loss is one of the negative mental side effects of smoking weed.

      1. What? Can’t back up what you say, Princess? Welcome to LOSERVILLE … population YOU. heh Heh HO

        1. Better to be thought a fool than open one’s mouth and remove all doubt…

          Abraham Lincoln

    2. No, we don’t assume you smoke pot because you live in Colorado. That would be stereotyping. We assume you smoke pot because of your ideas. That is evidence of a brain not functioning properly. Of course it could be from other things. Dropped on your head when a baby; LSD; alcohol poisoning; etc.

      1. Porter what are your predictions for the election between Jay Williams and John Thune? Do you feel Williams will win by a landslide? A close race?

btw! Who won between you and this Dithmer character? Quite the drama and seemed ridiculous how it even got started. Very entertaining though.

      2. Obama won twice because 95% or more of the blacks voted for him, and this is not being racist or bigoted. It is a fact. Another group that just wants free stuff will vote for the candidate who promises them the most, and right now that is the Dems. Another fact is that I would not hesitate to vote for a black, yellow, brown, purple, or any color candidate if I agreed with his/her political stance. There are many blacks that I would vote for and support completely so don’t even go there calling me racist..

  9. I have never said I smoke pot. Sorry, pal. But, I never said one way or the other because it’s nobody’s business. I’m just sick of being judged by low information voters.

    1. Charlie, I’ve always found you to be a reasonable guy. You even offered to have a beer with me. I’m sorry to judge you now more by the company you keep than what you really are. Your state has spiraled downhill in the last twenty years and it’s very little like the place we grew up. I’m not giving up on you guys though. With a balance of power in Pierre things could get back to what people remember.

  10. I listened to this guy on WNAX yesterday for a while. It was kind of funny listening to him and the radio host who is rather conservative discuss things. I found out taxes are a duty and increasing taxes on wealthy people is not punishing them for doing well. OK.

  11. Andrew Shiers (Anonymous 5:46):

While I find virtually everything Jay says political as wacky, my personal perspective stands. If we run into each other, I will enjoy catching up on what binds us (my grandparents and his parents were close friends), his younger siblings are close in age to my younger siblings, and mutual friends from our mutual hometown. And, I would have the opportunity to express my condolences for the recent passing of his mom who was as kind and funny a woman you’d ever meet.

I am pretty sure politics wouldn’t even come up as he knows me well enough that I am for Senator Thune.

In short, I am capable having both a civil and personal relationship with people without regard to race, creed, religion, political views, etc. I can both like Jay personally and think he is on a political fringe where people to the left of him might not fill a phone booth.

  12. Jay’s mom must be turning in her grave–watching her son’s buffoonery be paraded around SD as a state-wide joke.

What’s even sadder, is that Jay’s “friends” are not providing the Christian counseling to guide Jay back to adulthood.

It’s not about a published list of what “I” do; it’s about what Christ expects of us.

Proverbs 13:20: “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Real friends do the tough work and the tough talk of guiding their foolish friends away from the edge.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

The true fools are those who do nothing while friends dive off the platform into mud. That’s not the way real Christians should behave.

“He bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed’” 1 Peter 2:24

It’s not about what we do for ourselves or the public proclamations of all the good we supposedly do, its about what we humbly do FOR Christ.

    Jay’s mom would appreciate it.

      1. Andrew,

C’mon. You mention Jay’s mom (which i did) and our personal relationship, list a long list of quotes about Scripture. Porter doesn’t know Jay or his mother (or at least didn’t even hint at it.). And, those denigrating words after lecturing one on being a good Christian.

  13. The posts on remembering that Jay is human are not directed at anyone except those attacking Jay as crazy, not worthy of being around children, and so on.

They’re about the dangers of the FB/blogging bandwagon going beyond what is acceptable (like what happened to Kirk Ludwig). They’re not about you. They’re not even directed at you. What the he!! is your problem?

Another poster called you a paranoid prick–we can all see why. Get over yourself, a-hole.

  14. Andrew Shiers,

You know what? You are the only poster who has used the phrase ever at the DWC. Why do you lie and say it was said by “another poster?”

Your comment “remembering Jay is human” is interesting considering you referring his “buffoonery be paraded around SD as a state-wide joke” and this earlier post:

Troy: “Jay Williams is a smart guy, good person with a fun-loving personality”

Andrew: “The sincerity, judgment, and ability to reason of anyone making such a statement should be thoroughly analyzed.”

By the way, you are the only person who has used “a-hole” this year, every time it was you, and every time it was directed at me.

  15. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,” 1 John 2:4

“Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. Romans 13:1-14

I wouldn’t wish for anyone to experience the death of a child, having gone through it.

According to scripture, a just God would take a child from such a sinful wrongdoer.

It appears that Troys posts simply confirm what Steve and others has said about him. Maybe he should take it to heart or leave who ever he is.
    …..

Being a paranoid prick while saying all those Christians things make all Christian look bad. just stop it”

  17. Jay is a veteran navy pilot, a former peace corps volunteer, and a native South Dakotan who started a successful high-tech business in his home state. He is thoughtful, compassionate, and cares deeply about making his community a better place. I’d suggest engaging in meaningful discourse with Jay rather than posting strange comments on this blog. I’m sure he would be willing to talk about any of his ideas with any of you!
