One of my commenters pointed out the following in reference to the rumor about a Democrat Legislator announcing this weekend that they’re going take on Kristi Noem:
Inside word from people in the know in the Democratic Party is that it is Rep. Paula Hawks from District 9 (Sioux Falls, Hartford). She came in second in her last four-person race, beating the 3rd place Republican by 8 votes in a Democratic district. Doesn’t sound like a strong candidate to me but she is very tall.
Anyone have confirmation, so we can get a head start?

Paula Hawks would make sense. She is ambitious. Another possibility is Peggy Gibson who is term limited.
Either would be articulate and hard workers. They are both used to competitive legislative elections.
Whoever it is, the Democrats should be pleased to have a candidate so far in advance. Unusual.
As long as it’s not Jim Hundstad. Ms. Noem would have her hands full with Jim Hundstad.
Hundstad is a stud. He should change his name to Hundstud. No one could beat him in a head to head race. He would make the race too easy for the democrats. That’s why he won’t run.
It’s all about fairness to the left you know.
The 3 legged stool of tax fairness would befuddle noem. Bring hunstad back. Nothing for him to take back!
Kristi could hit that 70% mark this election, would make the 2016 Gov race even more interesting
It’s hard to imagine the D’s running a worse candidate than Corinna Robinson, unless they run no one.
I suspect one of Hawk’s planks would be “the right to bare arms” !
Hawks would be terrible. Billie Sutton would be interesting. He’s not that great but he’s also gives the impression of being a sd dem. Frerichs is the same only better.
Who is Hawks?
That’s the hurdle for the Dems.
i hate to be the voice of reason again, but don’t forget that stephanie herseth lost to janklow, then had to out-republican one of the state’s top republicans not once but twice in order to keep the seat. some of you talk about these great democrats who are on democrat steroids and i’m just here to remind you that that’s what kills you in the statewide races as a challenger to about any republican.
