Well, this is kind of a weird report. What is it telling us? Toby Doeden likes to spend money.
Toby Doeden’s campaign finance report is in.. albeit a little late, as it’s dated for 5:23pm.. and really, it’s about like Jon Hansen’s somewhat weak campaign finance report. In fact, he couldn’t even raise as much as Jon Hansen. Except for that loan.
Doeden raised $982.16 in unitemized donations, and $100,633 in itemized from a cast of characters. He grabbed another $1600 from others. For a gubernatorial race? Meh. There is NO grassroots support in this campaign. It’s Toby getting out his checkbook and playing pretend.
Over $20k of the $100k came from those whose last name is Doeden. Why do I think there are others on the list who are related, or have a business relationship with him? (Update: I’m told there are another $16k from family members to add to that total). Although, I do see $4k from self-annointed “world class drinker” and “man’s man,” Luke Blindert.
Toby loaned his campaign $2,015,744.30. And then he spent money like a drunken sailor. That 2 million dollar loan? He spent that and most of what he raised, leaving him $41,091.80. But don’t take my word for it. Read the report yourself.
If that’s indicative of how Toby Doeden would run state government, we’re all in big trouble if we even think a Doeden option is viable.

So he’s been lying through this entire campaign when he’s claimed he hasn’t taken a single donation and will not be beholden to any doners. Why is this not surprising.
Kinda surprised how many supporters he has in Aberdeen.
Look more closely. Several are repeat, several are relatives and considering how many he supposedly employs (at least he said he did when his $1.4M PPP loan was forgiven), he should have a ton more from there.
With this out of control spending, we’d never balance our budget again.
I have had people note that there are more family members than just those with Doeden as their last name. At least 3-4 more.
Roger Gray…sold Toby the Chrysler dealership, was his boss for about 15 years.
Jessica Post…an employee of Toby I believe she is also campaign treasuer
Jennie Ah Sam-daughter
DJ Ah Sam..son in law
Josie Belke-daughter
Chance Belke-son in law
Mark Caven…owns air charter service may have sold Toby the plane
Marcia Manhart…Logan’s mommy
Lying? Toby?
Why does somebody so unpopular and lacking grassroots support scare you so much? The emotions he brings out of you and the time you spend on him betray your own words.
I think you have more invested into my post than I do. If one is going to go to the circus, one can’t ignore the clowns.
I saw a man launching feces at people on a street corner once. I discuss the event with the same morbid fascination I do Doeden. According to braindead individuals like you, however, it must mean I’m frightened both might become governor. Just trash logic.
This made me LOL and oh, so true.
I always saw this as a Toby Doeden promotional advertising campaign for his family businesses. Not only promoting businesses but seeking possible investors for various schemes such as bitcoin. Never saw this as a serious campaign.
After this campaign for governor scheme is over I could see Toby turning his “Toby Doeden Unhinged” podcast into an early morning infomercial promoting bitcoin or who knows what else. I say Buyer beware!
Some of us think Doeden rightly saw the populist MAGA working its magic in the state and around the country, and rightly decided the time is now, to gather whatever populist wave exists in the state unto himself and consent to be their Governor, in the mold of Donald Trump: i.e. a businessman who eschews politicians and degrades politics, who shoots from the hip and surfs the wave of populist emotion. So far that gamble hasn’t been paying off, as this report indicates.
I feel 11:32 am and 1:00 pm are viable possibilities or a combination of both. I would also throw in ego. I also agree with the ‘Buyer Beware’ comment. Not sure what all he’ll be selling but he seems to be convincing to many. Not at all what he would need to win the primary and absolutely would lose in the general but his ego carries him.
It’s about as interesting and annoying to watch as was Stace Nelson about a decade ago.
A common observation by Aberdonians who don’t like Doedens is what appears to be social media favorable reviews and likes by the family members and employees for Aberdeen Chrysler Center. They really stack those reviews in an attempt to make themselves look better or offset poor reviews.. They do it to their other businesses too.
It would not surprise us if Toby slipped some cash to employees so that they can turn around and make a campaign donation in another attempt to look better and apply lipstick to a pig. Toby claimed he would be self funded. Well it is one way.
Two or three are business owners who do a lot of work for Doeden.
I reported those “reviews” to Google even sent links confirming the reviewers were his kids and or employees and Google refused to take them down.
Doeden certainly is not the hero we need – But the way SD politics have played out over the past decade, he is the “hero” we deserve.
Now if Doeden had Rupert Murdoch ordering his staff to get Doeden elected, it might be a different story. Nightly glad handing and puff pieces painting Doeden as a kindly grandpa for the nation AND a ruthless unparalleled dealmaker would be hard to resist. Of course none of the stories have to be true. We’d truly be hard pressed to make ourselves wait for the process and just make him Governor now and be done with it.
