And the ass-kickings keep coming for Toby Doeden.. More leaders sound off on his lack of confidence in South Dakota

Toby Doeden struck a chord with a number of leaders in South Dakota yesterday with his comments on how South Dakotans aren’t the ones being hired for high tech jobs, so we need to reject those opportunities for our state. The flood gates opened with Erin Tobin, and now others are chiming in AND THEY ALL DISAGREE WITH DOEDEN’S LACK OF VISION AND CONFIDENCE IN SOUTH DAKOTA.

First, Senator Tim Reed who has actually done economic development notes why Toby doesn’t know what he’s talking about:

Even Democrats who may disagree on a lot with Republicans understand that South Dakotans are capable and up to the task. And that Toby is unfit to lead.

As family members jump in to try to doeden-splain Toby’s words, they’re getting rebuked … although one doesn’t have to be an attorney like Austin to understand that inferring that South Dakotans are incapable is utterly indefensible:

Ben Koisti notes that no matter how much media coaching Toby gets, he still doesn’t get it.

And one of my favorites, from South Dakota tech entrepreneur Matt Paulson who has made a very lucrative career out of being one of those “tech people”..

(I’ll add to this as I catch any others posting to social media. )

  1. This is expected when your campaign is based on propaganda and expectations that the voters are dumb enough to drink your cool aid.

    1. At this point, that appears to be his target market. He relies solely on the strategy of enraging the weaponized stupidity of the blatantly uneducated with soundbites and national outrage and attempts to motivate them to take their angry citizen pitchforks to the polls.

    2. No one outside of his payroll is dumb enough to drink his koolaid. This guy is a freak and needs to go away. But it is comical watching him waste so much money….idiot. Keep the mailers coming at least he’s supporting the economy.

  2. Historically and prior to announcing any political venture if anyone challenged Toby’s posts on his social media page no matter how softly worded, sincere, or simply stating facts with debunking and educating he would immediately be sarcastic and attack them. If they continued where he felt he was made to look bad or really set him off by calling him an idiot then he would get his followers to bully them, they would be blocked and at times told to never set foot on his properties.

If this campaign ever gains traction which is highly doubtful NE South Dakota, Brown County and Aberdeen will be a gold mine of testimonials ready to share their stories and opposition publicly not only to Toby Doeden but arguably the worst and least productive elected officials affiliated with this candidate for Governor.

Ironically candidates like Toby Doeden and his politically extreme fringe core supporters including elected officials do indeed unite. They unite opposition across political lines and beliefs.

  3. I recall previous gubernatorial candidates used to say they wanted jobs that would keep our young people here. Those were the good old days.

Both of my sons graduated from Lyman County (population 3705) High School (it’s in Presho, population 464, in case you know where that is, but hardly anybody does) and went into IT. One works in Boston the other in Washington DC.

When your kids grew up in a county with barely 2 residents per square mile, and they moved over 1000 miles away to take IT jobs, it was nice to hear politicians talk about how we need more jobs here for the future.
Toby seems to plan on everybody leaving.

    1. Setting any talk about this candidate aside, these big data centers have their own in house staff and contracted engineers and architects that they have already worked with to get their projects underway.
Speaking of centers, follow information on the value of their daily stocks…not looking good for some. Looks as if Ellendale, ND has quite a debt. Does not help when 3 top founders have been pulling millions(557 m) out .

      1. Lies. Lies. Lies. Lies. Falicies. Do real research. They have actual fact sheets and info videos on their website. Go to one of the town hall info meetings about data centers being held across the state. Go, ask questions. Have a conversation. You can reach out to applied digital’s community team any time and they will answer question directly.

Have a conversation and stop believing what you read on Facebook in those assignined closed Facebook groups!

        1. I prefer not to get info. from FB or from a biased group trying to sell a bill of goods. I read objective reports and. get the daily stock market info. And you?

  4. It maybe argued that the Doeden Parasitic Empire profits from South Dakota’s well known but unfortunate brain drain. Their actions further fuel it in social media posts even at his businesses with rhetoric and use of resources. We see it every legislative session with his PAC adding fuel to it.

An update to a journalistic poll of the residents of Aberdeen posted on Feb 29th 2025

Is Toby Doeden good for Aberdeen and South Dakota?

    No is at 71%
Yes is at 29% despite the best efforts of Team Doeden including most likely paying area residents to vote favorably.
    411 votes were cast.

    1. it’s not just the brains that are circling the drain, it is all the money spent to educate the best and brightest, only to have them move away… Why invest in education if they are just going to leave?
