Dissent is not to be tolerated.
Aberdeen City Councilwoman Jennifer Slaight-Hansen is up for re-election this year. And Aberdeen City Councilwoman Jennifer Slaight-Hansen doesn’t like it if you have kind words for her opponent.
Because Slaight-Hansen went on the attack against State Senator Al Novstrup because he shared a facebook post which had nice things to say about two candidates for City Council who attended a luncheon, and didn’t even mention Slaight-Hansen’s name until she sputtered great umbrage for Novstrup supporting people who shared his point of view on the life issue:
It also continued in the comment section under the post where Slaight-Hansen continued grousing in a passive-aggressive manner about an event she didn’t choose to attend:
I’m sure none of it has to do with the fact that Slaight-Hansen also happens to be Chair of the Brown County Democrat Party, and anymore is one of the higher ranking members of the party with the continued attrition of the ranks of the SDDP.
Interestingly, Slaight-Hansen might have done herself more harm than good by bringing the Pro-life/Pro-Choice divide into the discussion on the race, as while she’s attacking Republicans for participating in a pro-life event held at a church, there’s little documentation on her own position aside from ambiguous comments.
In the past, at a Democrat Women’s rally in Aberdeen in 2014, Slaight-Hansen noted “Democrats need to be sent (to Washington) to represent women’s issues.” And in 2016 it was noted she commented at another meeting:
Brown County Democratic Party chair Jennifer Slaight-Hansen observed that economic issues can be a harder sell in South Dakota because our economy and state budget are relatively more stable, allowing GOP-favoring culture-war issues like guns and abortion to resonate more among voters.
Slaight-Hansen has served as the Democrat State Convention Co-Chair in the past, and was one of three South Dakota Hillary Clinton delegates to the last Democrat National Convention, neither of which have exactly been slanted towards the pro-life side of the equation.
By going on the attack over a non-issue – attending a pro-life meeting – she might have handed her opponent an opportunity and shown a vulnerability he could dig into that wasn’t there until she brought it up herself.
Attacking people for attending a pro-life rally in a church, and aligning with Hillary Clinton?
I think Slaight-Hansen’s extreme partisanship is showing.
Good grief.
Are people deciding to join “Butt-Hurt Is Us” in droves these days?
Slaight-Hansen is upset because a prominent citizen re-posted an article featuring pictures and several paragraphs that have a total of two sentences supporting a couple of people running for a local election. She is upset because she was not invited to a Pro-Life function at her church. I have to wonder if she would attend and support a Pro-Life agenda. Working in Aberdeen I have been seeing the lawn signs. I am thinking based upon what I have seen of this lady that the city council might be Rife for change.
