After Crabtree release on silencers, Rhoden campaign tweets out that they came up with it first.

In case you missed the announcement earlier today from State Senator Casey Crabtree..

MADISON–Today, State Senator Casey Crabtree (R-District 8) announced draft legislation to update South Dakota law related to suppressors following federal changes with the One Big Beautiful Bill.

“I’m proud of my A rating from the NRA and proud to advance legislation supporting our constitutional right to bear arms,” said Crabtree. “Thanks to President Trump and Republican Leaders, the One Big Beautiful Bill was a major win for gun owners purchasing suppressors. This session, we will update South Dakota law to reflect this Second Amendment victory.”

Read that here.

Which is fine. But shortly after 5, Governor Larry Rhoden’s campaign came out with a tweet/video making sure that people know they mentioned it last Thursday:

Ah.. I might have expected that more if it were a Dusty/Rhoden thing, but coming on the heels of the Crabtree announcement?

Is Governor Rhoden drawing a line in the sand and letting everyone know that de-regulating suppressors is his issue?

  1. It seems kind of weird that Crabtree announced a bill that Rhoden already announced last week?

  2. Gov can announce or not announce whatever he wants, but you can’t pass legislation without legislators or a legislative process. Unless of course you want to rule by executive order. If I were Rhoden, I’d be thanking Sen. Crabtree for working with me and helping usher through good legislation.

It’s going to be a LONNNNGGGGG campaign season.

  3. What a desperate move to get attention. After his idea of zero increase for education and zero pay increase for state employees, he’s lost my attention.

I’m really sick and tired of all the candidates and SDGOP. Where the hell is the vision for the next election? Why do I have to pay money to hear and maybe get 10 seconds to visit with the candidate? What are they going to do for the state of South Dakota? I’ve lived here for nine years and all this legislature concerns itself is with utter nonsense just so they can get sound bites for the ears that are tickled by it.

Will I be here in another nine years? Not if this crap keeps up. I may vote against all incumbents in the primary and again in the general. You’re keeping people out of the state and making people start thinking about moving.

    1. Where on my list of 100 most important things facing South Dakotans, does the gun suppressor issue land? I just checked… and it isn’t even on the list.

      Unserious people.

  4. As a trust holder of 3 suppressors, I wasn’t aware the state had any restrictions. I have been hunting with them for several years and SD is home to one of the largest manufacturers at Silencer Central in Sioux Falls.

  5. What a hero. Rally the troops to create headlines on issues that ultimately are controlled by federal law. Seriously, doesn’t SD have bigger issues to address?

  6. If he did announce it last Thursday, so be it. I also saw where he stated he spoke with Crabtree and would be working with him on the legislation. Seems ho-hum.
