General Election Date: November 3, 2026
Voter Registration Deadline: October 19, 2026
Absentee Voting Begins: September 18, 2026
We are just 16 days.. a smidge over two weeks from when people will start voting. (Good time to get those signs ordered, BTW).
I’m seeing more Dem signs up than Rep signs in SF.
I had thought we had three candidates (D, I, and R) running for state senate in our district but from the looks of things, nobody is. No yard signs, no postcards, no debates, no fundraisers; are they waiting for homecoming parades to show up? Haven’t seen any sign of any of them.
I had to check the SOS website: there is nobody running as a Democrat. That leaves the Independent and the Republican. And they are nowhere to be seen.
This has to be the strangest political year ever in our district.

In Brookings County you would think only the Sheriff is on the ballot
Is this lack of energy what happens when the state party doesn’t light a fire under local candidates? doesn’t mail out district-specific flyers?
The state party can’t afford stamps
That figures. The state party should be mailing out postcards reminding people to vote, with district-specific slates of candidates, and putting ads in local newspapers
Even if they had the money, would they know they should be doing that?
Not at all. Even minenhaha county isn’t doing anything. Dysfunction at its best. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dems make a few pick ups in the legislature and even a statewide office or two.
