While we’ve all been watching the Toby Doeden ads, making us insensitive to the deluge of negativity he’s running on, they’ve somewhat faded into the background and are ignored at this point as he attacks Dusty Johnson and Larry Rhoden, (and ignoring 2% Jon Hansen).
But this morning, while watching the news, gears have shifted and I saw the first negative ad directly against Larry Rhoden which went after him. I didn’t get a chance to record it, but I did grab a couple of screen shots with my phone:

The group promoting this effort is the “Rushmore Principles” Political Action Committee, so we’ll have to wait a few weeks until the pre-primary report to find out who is behind it.
But it pulls no punches, and goes straight after Governor Rhoden hard for the shift of sales taxes to offset property taxes that was passed this last legislative session.
Stay tuned. I’m sure things will get rougher before the election is done.
UPDATE:
This is not a tiny ad buy. Looking like 250k or so?

Doeden isn’t negative. He is using lie-triangulation, which we could streamline into “LIE-angulation.” This of course is when you tell a willing listener the best lie they’re hoping for, while your actual history and track record say that you will never keep that promise, or even know how to keep the promise.
Well if it was a 250k transaction eliminates one candidate on “who dun it”
On the heels of his Biden-esque debate performance, this is bad news for Larry.
We spent the last 2 years talking about people getting taxed out of their homes. That was the priority in this session and in the summer property tax study. This is a plan targeted to those people who seemed to have the largest tax concern. This helps resolve that issue, and now we don’t like it.
We like it fine. We just don’t like Larry.
We don’t like it fine. This plan takes money from renters and rural South Dakota to relieve the property taxes for home owners in the 5 largest cities.
So who are we trying to help here?
So is this Doeden or Dusty? It seems like a lot of money for Doeden to spend just focusing on Larry.
I suppose Doeden, he needs Larry’s votes to get to a runoff. He’s not trying to win he’s trying to get second.
If Doeden finishes in 2nd place he still wins. The exposure helps him gain customers and gamblers for his bitcoin schemes. It will further boost his ego thinking he will be a force to be reckoned with in South Dakota politics being the leader of the Libertarian/Conspiracy enthusiast faction.
Dusty looking around like “we’re all trying to find the guy that did this!”
Wait a minute, in y
Insults need to stop in this election. I find it very immature. I mean look what Tina Mulally said about Sabrina Green for the auditor position. She’s digging into her personal life on her fliers and lying about things. And trying to compare having a little treasurer work to being an auditor! Mulally is nut just like Doeden.
This is a month after mill ally was crying on the house floor about how her hard past shaped her. Now we’re using someone else’s past to attack them. Hypocrite
Doeden has always lumped Dusty and Larry together. Doeden also has existing PACs to run through. AND Doeden has the balls to attack someone himself instead of hiding behind a surrogate. “Rushmore Principles” has Dusty’s name all over it.
We know you know, Pat! Dish! Haha
No, Doeden has attacked using another PAC. He’s weak. But Dusty is behind this one.
How many casinos does Doeden own? He’s getting rich off the poor folks that spend their paychecks at his casinos. What a special guy.
Addiction Profiteer Toby Doeden owned Legends on 6th Ave in Aberdeen advertised as the largest video lottery casino, tobacco/vape, liquor and other intoxicants one stop shop in Aberdeen.
Then you have EZ Stop C-Store Video Lottery Casino by the original and first Super 8 Motel and Street Market C-Store video lottery casino across from Doeden owned Aberdeen Chrysler Center.
Then there is Doeden owned Legends Express C-Store formerly Bonn’s C-Store and car wash by the Ramkota. It probably has a video lottery casino in it too just down the road from Aberdeen Chrysler Center.
FYI, not a fan of Toby. Nobody is forcing anyone to play video lottery, NOBODY….
This is Dusty dirt, indeed.
Absolutely; fake snake Dusty.
But Larry is naive. He never saw this coming. He never asked them to sign a no negative campaign pledge.
Same company that made Krusy Nozem adds before she got caught lying and removed and placed into a made up position for the FOTUS
Dusty isn’t concerned about the others. He’s concerned about Rhoden. 100% Dusty. He is desperate. Desperate people do desperate things. Remember the last one who did desperate ads.
Larry should look at himself and his team and ask what they are going to do about it. The most obvious answer is take it.
They should be wiser and know better. Dusty is better at politics than most. Larry should up his game. A strategy to dumb lucking his way into office is not a wise strategy.
He won’t, but go full Perot I’m going to raise your taxes, and you’re gonna like it. Shows honesty and takes away The Tobsters budget hawk voters (He would also have to do something to reduce the budget but still).
Why do all the elections have to be bought by special interest groups. Doeden, Johnson and Rhoden have all made references to trump who is the worst president this country has ever seen and hopefully will never see again. These three are not the ones who are needed to lead our state into the future. You can bet that when one of them are in the governor’s seat that we will continue to see the grifting that Noem did, 40 years of republicans taking advantage of the citizens of this state is unacceptable. Voters need to remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn’t true.
Having seen 7 presidents in my adult life, no one has done as much good in so short a time as President Trump.
Two people in my house received a push poll text survey on Friday night from Open Sights Research. I’m assuming it came from Doeden (who else has the money??). The poll asked very pointed and negative questions about Dusty – I assumed to see which message would hurt him the most. I will not be surprised to see ads formed around some of these questions in the near future.
It’s not surprising. It’s the Rhoden weak spot. Very poorly thought out program.
So who is Lee Howell, contact for Rushmore Principles? Was he in the motel business?
