Congressman Dusty Johnson’s Weekly Column: Peace and Protection

BIG Update

Just days after the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ abhorrent attack on Israel, there was an agreement reached on a peace deal between Israel and Hamas is a great step towards lasting peace in the region. I’m grateful the Trump Administration never gave up in their efforts to end the violence and release the hostages. Leading with peace through strength delivers real results. This is a historic peace deal.

BIG Idea

Monday marks the 35th Native American Day in South Dakota. The holiday was adopted in 1990 as a sign of reconciliation and to honor the culture and contribution of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people.

In March, I was named the most effective House member on Native American issues by the Center for Effective Lawmaking. The federal government has trust and treaty obligations to assist our nation’s tribes. That’s why I’ve advocated for additional law enforcement funding for tribes, reforms to the Indian Health Service, funding for tribal colleges and universities, and more. I can’t do it all without the leadership and coordination of tribal leaders in South Dakota. I’m grateful for their partnership.

BIG News

The federal government remains shut down and the impact continues to grow. I voted two weeks ago to keep the government open and ensure essential services continue, which includes paying federal employees. Next week, 1.3 million service members will miss their paycheck if the government is not reopened. I’ve completed the necessary paperwork to not receive a paycheck while our men and women in uniform go without. Our troops deserve better—it’s time for liberals in the Senate to reopen the government.

Federal safety nets, like WIC, are already running out of funds. WIC helps the most vulnerable women, infants, and children afford formula and food they need. This shutdown is already impacting these vulnerable populations the hardest.

Shutdowns don’t benefit anybody. I’ve introduced a bill to make sure a shutdown never happens again. The government must be open to work as it should for the American people.

  1. While I agree that shutdowns are terrible, it is shameful that are elected representatives cannot even be bothered to talk to each other and possibly come to an agreement of some type. I believe this is the 21st straight day the House has not been in session. I suggest maybe getting back to work in DC.

  2. Enough with the “It’s not my fault” mentality when you disregard your responsibility to show up for work! Thousands of individuals are losing their jobs, livelihoods, and insurance, while family insurance costs are skyrocketing. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, you refuse to acknowledge your responsibility. You’ve had months to collaborate with the Democrats, but what have you accomplished? Absolutely nothing. Our farmers are facing serious financial peril as a direct result of the MAGA agenda. Instead of fostering a fair and open market, we’re resorting to paying off farmers through grants and subsidies. This is nothing less than a blatant authoritarian agenda from MAGA. It’s time to face reality and take accountability for the consequences of this misguided approach!

    1. ypu cannot “collaborate” with someone who refuses to compromise. The Democrats have lost their minds. Schumer is not leftist enough to satisfy the people who still live and vote in New York; AOC is going to take his seat, you can bet on that.

      1. I don’t know what you’re smoking but the refusal to negotiate is totally on the Republican side. Google it. When you add it all up, the Republican Party en masse is refusing to do anything contrary to Trump’s orders on anything. They’re like 270 fat fingers on Trump’s hand. Just ask any of them if Trump lost to Biden in 2020 and you’ll instantly know who you’re dealing with by the answer you get. Not a single one will draw his wrath and tell the truth that even HE admitted last year at the risk of perjury charges – he knows he lost. It is all sickening, today’s GOP betrays every hope our founders had for a long, enduring, eternal freedom under God.

        1. According to Google:

“The most recent CR, introduced in September 2025, aims to fund federal operations through November 21, 2025, functioning as a short-term extension that essentially mirrors past CRs in structure and spending levels. This particular CR has been described as the same short-term funding extension that virtually all Democrats voted for multiple times during the Biden Administration, showing considerable consistency in how short-term government funding is managed when formal budgets are delayed.”

“The current CR, based on the most recent legislative text linked to Senate Democrats, continues the tradition of stopgap government funding measures that Chuck Schumer has supported. These CRs typically provide temporary appropriations to prevent government shutdowns and buy time for Congress to pursue a full-year budget agreement ”

You may want to take a step back into reality before trying to absolve the liberal dems.

        2. Everything is a Republican lie and tactic from the Google-verse perspective:
“ On October 2, furloughed nonpartisan staff at the Department of Education alleged that their out-of-office email replies had been manipulated to blame Democrats for the shutdown. Historically, nonpartisan staff have followed a template for out-of-office responses when government shutdowns occur. The manipulated responses would be considered a violation of the Hatch Act.[56]
On October 3, after a fourth failed vote of 54–44, in the Senate, Speaker Johnson announced he would extend the House recess for another week. The recess will also delay the swearing in of Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva.[57] Later, CBS News reported House Republicans were scheduled to have a phone call with members over the weekend. The Senate was not expected to reconvene until October 6.[58] On October 6, the Senate again held votes on the Democrat and Republican versions, with both failing by votes of 45–55 and 52–42, respectively. The same day, Trump claimed talks were underway with Democrats, which Schumer said was not true.”
So yeah, keep up the GOP lies bub.

            1. First, I didn’t “google” Fox News or the Examiner, but maybe you should because you may actually learn something besides dumocrat propaganda. I used Google and CoPilot, neither can hardly be accused of a conservative bias. You on the other hand used “Google-verse” a notoriously left leaning bias platform.

Your response referred to an “alleged” manipulation of email. You do know that alleged means there is no proof, but then when has that stopped a liberal?

Your response covers nothing but votes and in-session schedules/recesses which is nothing different than when the dems run the show. But do you care to address the FACT that the Continuing Resolution is essentially the same one that had been voted upon 13 times by the dems when Biden was occupying the White House? It is essentially the same CR that Schumer voted on a few months ago. It is essentially the same CR as was drafted by Schumer. So why the refusal to vote for it now?

And how about all the self-righteous talk from the dems about how the government needs to remain funded and we can’t hold the American people hostage because people will die…I guess that all goes out the window when they want to grandstand and are scared shitless of the radical base.

            2. If anon 11:46 thinks Fox can “educate” anyone, I rest my case. The propaganda train on the right rolls on.

              1. Noticed you didn’t even try to address the main points. What’s wrong, have nothing concerning those? Didn’t think so.

        3. who is voting for the CR and who is voting against it?
That tells you who is causing the shutdown

          It’s really quite simple.
The Democrats don’t have the votes to get what they want so they are throwing a collective tantrum,.

  3. The Israelli/Gaza peace deal signed and the remaining hostages returned. Just like the border, all that was needed was a new President.

    TRiUMPh!
