Caught this ad that was in local papers in District 4 from the Independent candidate running for office. Can’t say that I’ve ever seen a candidate running on a platform of “cut school funding.” But this was a legislative district that managed to elect Dylan Jordan for a term, so if any district was going to generate a goofball candidate like this, it might be D4.
Teaching them durned kids how to turn on a computer? A pox on that house of lurnin! And if you also happen to enjoy watching your kid play football or play in the band (or any extracurricular activity) that’s a no go with District 4 House Candidate Sam Froehlke as well.
In case you’re wondering about what is supposed to be provided, the State Constitution says “it shall be the duty of the Legislature to establish and maintain a general and uniform system of public schools wherein tuition shall be without charge, and equally open to all; and to adopt all suitable means to secure to the people the advantages and opportunities of education.” That’s a pretty broad mandate which gives a lot of latitude.
I also get the sense that he doesn’t have a clue that schools and counties have separate tax levies that aren’t contingent on one another. School districts can raise or lower property taxes on their own, and so can counties.
So, preparing children less for their adult lives isn’t going to have anything to do with a township getting a road grader.
Maybe Sam is the one who needs to spend a little more time in School. Because he needs a lot more education about how government works.
