The funding for RL 21 comes from the Biden Harris Inflation reduction act…$85 per metric ton of captured CO2. So the ethanol producers of South Dakota are now claiming Trump agrees with the Biden/Harris energy policies? This project is opposed to both populist movements (from the right and the left), with only those who want to make money on the backs of “We The People” supporting it… the Republican Establishment crony capitalists, not to be confused with free market capitalists.
Here’s “we the people” not understanding the bill again. It’s not a pipeline approval or denial bill. The pipeline will likely happen regardless of this bill. This bill puts protections in place for landowners and puts money in the pockets of the county, so they can potentially reduce property taxes. Voting yes doesn’t mean the pipeline will happen, just as a no vote doesn’t stop it. If you think keep carbon capture is dumb, join the club. But I’m voting yes because when the pipeline gets it common carrier status, I want some protections in place and I want our ag producers to be able to sell their corn and our ethanol producers to have access to the billion dollar aviation fuel market.
“This bill puts protections in place for landowners”, that is the big lie being promoted by the proponents. RL21 lists landowners protections that our provided by other statutes that will not go away due to the demise of RL21.
Clear indemnification. Required notice. Payment on arrival after notice. Payment for every mile the pipeline crosses your property. It’s not a lie. You’re talking to someone that’s actually read the bill, previous and related statutes, spoke with the sponsors and detractors and I can tell you the disingenuous, fear mongering anti-pipeline group only used this bill for political gain. “Eminent domain for private gain”, “loss of property rights”, all lies that have nothing to do with the actual bill. Short sighted stupidity by the no group. Landowners in ND keep losing in court on some of these issues and I can bet they wish they had some of these protections codified. Unfortunately people will believe the crap because they won’t take the time to go read it for themselves or ask questions from the sources.

The funding for the Yes side is not coming from Ag producers as much as it is from corporations with deep pockets who believe they are entitled to welfare payments via Bidens’ 45Q tax credits, thus increasing the federal debt in order to put plant food into a hole in the ground. How is that good for Ag producers?

Interesting Pat, so why are some of the environmentalists opposed to carbon capture? Second, I heard that the 45Q at that time was $50 per metric ton, and BIden’s Inflation Reduction Act raised it to $85. Third, those who talk about the Uni-Party seem to have a handle on the reality on today’s political environment…only the money matters to both party establishments.

This bill doesn’t deal with eminent domain. Eminent domain is actually another issue altogether.

Can someone please tell me how this bill gives the carbon pipeline free rein to go wherever they want and take from landowners without payment and impose their will on everyone? Going to be some sad people if this bill gets shot down and the carbon pipeline gets it’s common carrier status. Then Summit will be laughing about how much money they saved not having to pay landowners to come on the land to survey. Not have to pay a dollar per foot to the county. Not have to waste money burying it a foot deeper than currently required.

Because the permit was already denied once. This is quid pro quo between the Legislature, Summit, and the PUC. Pass the bill, get the permit. We don’t want the permit issued because the pipeline does not benefit the public, only the ethanol and pipeline companies.

The people against RL21 have NO true skin in the game! Maybe they are fighting so hard because they are not being offered easements??? The CO2 pipeline will be safer than any current pipeline. Summit is only crossing agreeable landowners and paying quite well for the simple privilege to install a pipeline that will give a huge boost to SD Corn Growers. Talk to the Ethanol plants…everyone of them is on board! IF you are so against this project then quite taking your corn to an Ethanol plant!! RL21 is NOT just for this current project but any future projects!! It has NOTHING to do with getting a permit!!!
Ethanol demand will decline. EV sales continue to increase though the ICE will be with us for some time as there is no technological and/or affordable replacement for some applications.

How? There are some that do direct sequestration like red trail energy or blue flint but that is geography dependent. It comes down to what is feasible, and most will simply shut down. Renewable inputs have to be located at the facilities. You either lower your ci score through inputs like energy usage, farming practices, or you do it on the backend by handling the exhaust, or both. Otherwise, who is going to buy it? What happens to farmers and corn prices when ethanol plants shut down? How does that effect national security regarding energy production if we lose ethanol?
Our national security will be just fine with a reduction of ethanol production and demand. Increased EV adoption is reducing demand and with fracking technology we are secure on that front.
So your plan is to have the ethanol industry shut down. The No on 21 folks should put that in their ads so everyone understands their “vision.” Thats clearly what Jane Fonda wants, too.
