Doeden response to poll with 30 point gap: Fake Poll! Fake Poll!

The Doeden for Governor campaign has taken to Facebook to respond to the poll numbers showing the Larry Rhoden campaign out in front of him by a wide margin.

It’s all fake. Of course:

Darned mainstream media.

  1. It’s become a predictable pattern: when MAGA candidates are losing or have already lost, they default to shouting “fake news” instead of taking responsibility. That reflex doesn’t show strength—it reveals a lack of integrity and accountability. People who can’t face reality have no business holding public office.

    1. Fake news is a real problem, although 2016 was a wake up call for many. Do I think this poll is fake news? No.

  2. Listen Toby! The Onion took over InfoWars. How about we contact them and get you on their news program with their new host Tim Heidecker? Alex Jones allegedly exploded in Austin, TX not far from his favorite Whataburger.

Listen! We get laughs and votes to put you over the top! Toby Doeden running for Governor for South Dakota is a guest on the world famous InfoWars!

  3. Toby Doeden has the same problem that Dan Ahlers does at the end of the day. Familiarity.
Thanks to The Apprentice, infamous bankruptcy artist Donald Trump wove a hypnotic spell among a tv fan base who appreciated being let in on the big decisions of the tycoons, and felt Trump empowering THEM vicariously each week. Trump still has access to the power of that magic spell.
The problem for Doeden and Ahlers both is that most voters have no inner feeling or urge when they consider the two for the governors job. It’s logical that Rhoden dominates at this time. Rhoden’s big worry was Dusty Johnson, and the vote four-way split and tactical choices took him out.

  4. Getting 35% was his only chance. Everyone knew he would be cooked in a runoff especially since he roasted the other career politicians ensuring that nobody would switch their support. He gambled and lost. His only hope is low voter turnout but I have seen a lot of enthusiasm to come out and vote against him. I really hope we continue to reject dirty politics in this state as an example of what doesn’t work.

    1. This blowout poll is probably going to depress turnout for both candidates, but probably not nearly enough to change the result. I actually know someone who was planning to vote this afternoon at the courthouse before the poll came out. It’s hot out there, ya know?

  5. Omw to change my party so i can vote against this cry baby that can’t accept reality. So over that childish broken record.

  6. Will anybody tell that had he actually “won the primary in a landslide,” as he claims, he wouldn’t be in a runoff now?

  7. I think the poll is likely accurate. Dusty voters have all gone to Rhoden. I’m sure Larry’s team is focused on turning out Dusty’s supporters. Hansen’s voters are likely split.

  8. I was guessing 52/38 Rhoden – or better. So this result is not that surprising. Betting odds have been inching up for Rhoden for a reason.

And about those betting odds… this thing has got to stop. Insiders are shoveling the money into their pockets. Polling gives candidates and others easy money at the expense of everyone else.

    1. At a minimum, political betting should have a cutoff well in advance of an election. The current system is highway robbery.

  9. WATCH OUT THOUGH – still 2 weeks til runoff day and a poll like this might make Rhoden people relax and forget about sticking that ballot down the old vote hole. THAT would be a different deal. So everyone Make Sure You Vote. No need to white knuckle through a seesaw vote count with a pre-election poll like this.
