Doeden’s Lt short list filtering out

While I’m sitting at a wedding this afternoon, my phone started blowing up as the Dakota Scout released a list of whom they are claiming are on Toby Doeden’s short list for Lieutenant Governor.

Doeden has not publicly named finalists in his search for a lieutenant governor candidate, but according to sources of The Dakota Scout, the political newcomer who made history as the top vote-getter in the June 2 primary has narrowed his shortlist to a former House speaker, a former congressional candidate, a veteran state government operative and a moderate leader in the South Dakota Legislature.

You can read it here.

Steve Haugaard, Taffy Howard are not unexpected from being Doeden supporters, but then Sen. Casey Crabtree was thrown in there, as was Jackley campaign worker Jason Williams.

Supposedly Taffy and Toby were filming together at the Republican state convention, so that was high on my guess list.

Haugaard has been active on social media for Toby, but the other two haven’t said anything about Doeden, so they come as a bit of a surprise.

Casey would be a capable leader to preside over the Senate, but I think this would be new and unfamiliar territory for Williams.

What are your thoughts?

  1. That is the most pathetic attempt to “please everyone” list I’ve ever seen. Of course the far right is livid. Could this actually lose Toby votes? It alienates the far right… and is laughable to traditional Republicans.
    Time to be done Toby.

    1. Crabtree has the inside track. Also, Doeden loves Jackley.

It’s actually a good look for Crabtree. Broadening the base for his next run.

Howard is the most logical. Hansen would be his best choice.

      1. Not a good look for Casey. His own supporters aren’t going to be impressed if he’s playing footsie with Toby Doeden.

And the hardcore landowner people will never accept him.

        1. Serves the landowners right for a stupidly believing Doeden about landowner rights and then Crabtree is one of the lieutenant governor choices. This was a person who got mega money to promote the carbon pipeline. Get a clue for once. Vote for an honest man. That would be Larry Rhoden!

          1. Exactly. Larry has the integrity to want lawmakers to kill the eminent domain bill so he doesn’t have to sign it.

  2. If I woke up with my head stapled to the carpet. I would be less suprised. Than if Casey Crabtree was Toby’s Lt. Governor pick.

    1. This stapeling has happened before on more than one occasion, grudznick is not proud to report, but Mr. Crabtree is on this list as a piece of fairy cake from Mr. Doeden. The full cabinet list from Doeden is truly terrifying.

    1. Don’t be so sure … old Chameleon Crabtree will say, spin, do anything to gain his popularity and political aspirations. He is a lot of something but honesty (in the form of being straight forward) is not one of them.

  3. Unless I’m totally off on my assessments, I can’t see either Casey or Jason jumping on Doeden’s team. I could envision Taffy or Julie Frye Mueller since they have been vocal in supporting him.

    1. Crabtree is such an interesting option, especially with future aspirations. None of this even matters unless he wins. Waste of time.

      1. Mr. Crabtree has aspirations, indeed, but he is not transparent about them. Prune the crab, say most.

  4. Toby has the prime sponsor of SB201 on his short list? Tells you everything about Toby. He tells everyone what they want to hear. “Please everyone” is about right. That is why there is a recording of him saying he voted for Obama. When he is with conservatives he loves Trump but then when he is with moderates he plays the businessman card. The reality is he is still a car salesman doing anything to try and get the sale or in this case the election. The freedom caucus was just easier to dupe first. I’ve heard this from Jon Hansen supporters and legislators that essentially they are with Rhoden because Toby can’t be trusted. If this election was another month away it might have been 80-20 Rhoden.

    1. If it was a mortal sin that Rhoden had Lederman show up at a public meet and greet, I assume it’s ten times worse for Doeden to have Crabtree on the LG shortlist.

    1. Hansen is not going to compromise his morals and run with a liar. No position is worth it if you have to lose all you stand for.

      1. It’s not about any compromising morals. Jon plays the nice Christian husband in public. He took his ball and went home after loosing. Typical lifelong behavior from him. He will pivot and take a different political path eventually and do it in the name of moral responsibility for the voters.

  5. A question that needs to be answered: Did Toby actually ask these four individuals if they’d serve as lieutenant governor, and did they agree to be on this shortlist? I think that’s an important piece of information voters deserve to know.

  6. Well, golly. grudznick shall weigh in with two comments. And you know when grudznick weighs in before a Sunday Morning Conservatives with Common Sense Breakfasting, there will still be some weight hefting in there. The real ranting occurs over gravy taters and sausages, tommorrow morning.

1: Everybody knew about Ms. Taffy. She is very pretty, and insaner than most.
    2: who?

  7. Mr. Doeden, you have a young fellow reading these bloggings. His mind is melted, and warped forever. Once the reality slaps your jowels, you need to step back and come to Rapid and clear your mind. grudznick can arrange for you to undergo the Total Perspective Vortex.

    It will assuage your mind.

  8. Hopefully this speculative fun will last only two more days. By fun I mean angry insanity. But who knows?

  9. Any reasonable person (Non-Wackadoodle) would stay far away from being associated with Toby Doeden being on the ticket. If he somehow fools enough voters to be elected those who choose otherwise will go down with the ship into the bottom of the manure pit.

Drove thru Toby’s hometown yesterday Groton yesterday and there were hardly any Toby Doeden campaign signs other than one set back being hard to see. It might as well have been.

    “Anything You Want”
    Toby Doeden for Governor

  10. What I found Interesting was that Toby Doeden was behind Taffy’s push for the Liberty Land Petition Drive when Toby already had his own a $4.3 Million Real Estate Tax Increment Financing (TIF).
Toby and his PAC were behind the thousands of texts saying “Let’s be clear about what this is: corporate welfare. Taking money from taxpayers and handing it to private corporations,” Seems both Toby and Taffy were against ALL TIFs, especially due to the tax exemptions Crazy for Toby now gets Tax Exemptions for his Real Estate Rental properties that he raised the rents on double to triple.
This was information that some of the volunteer signature gatherers did not know when they volunteered.
