The 31 statues tell the story of our former governors, the moments they presided over, and give us hope for the continued success of our state.

The legislature kept the state open, denying her request. Why keep repeating this lie?
If politics over the last decade have taught me anything, it’s that the truth really isnt relevant. There are zero consequences for lying.

You’re absolutely correct. Lies can be told and spread like wildfire. Half truths are lies. Lies can and have ruined many lives in the last few years. But no one is held accountable. Government officials get immunity, state actors can punish those that don’t fall in line and if you challenge it you can and are subject to fines, penalties and loss of liberties.
Why is lying pants on fire trump so freaking popular then? Nothing sticks to his slime.

Obviously you were not affected by her polices and decisions like I was. My hours were reduced during COVID and she took my extra unemployment away from me. If my co workers and I found another job during that time the business we were working for would have had to close it’s doors as the jobs we had required extensive training and you just can’t pull someone off the street, plunk them down at a desk and expect them to do the job. Luckily we were able to get hour hours back but we were underemployed for 18 months because of COVID.
The Biden administration had a program where you could get a rebate on home appliances like water heaters, AC units etc that were environmentally friendly. I had to get a new water heater. That rebate would have come in handy but Kristi refused to accept funding for it. Kristi doesn’t care about the lower classes
What are tou talking about? Your employer reduced your hours and it was the Governor’s fault?
Did she tell your employer to cut your hours? Did she tell your customers to stop patronizing your business?
Did she give you Covid? Did she tell your employer not to apply for any Covid relief funds under the Paycheck Protection Program, or the Employee Retention Credit? She did turn down the federal extension of unemployment benefits in August 2020, but since employers were able to stay open and continue hiring, extending the benefits didn’t make a lot of sense. She was criticized, a lot, for not shutting down tourism, like the Sturgis Rally and the State Fair. She didn’t shut down the schools, or order agriculture production and processing to stop. There were plenty of jobs. She didn’t shut down anything, left those decisions up to local governments and privately owned businesses.
Seriously, WHAT are you talking about? Is it possible you just had a bad boss? Because the fact is, if you were employed in the private sector, the decision to cut employee hours or shut down did not come from Pierre. You are blaming the wrong person.
She 100% shut down the schools. I still remember the announcement in March 2020. That came from her.

“Kristi Noem Hater” said if they had found other employment the business they worked for wpukd have had to close.
Not that they COULDN’T find other jobs, just that if they did that the business would have to close.
If you admit that you COULD find work elsewhere but you just don’t want to, why should you be entitled to unemployment benefits? You make a choice to stay with an employer who isn’t paying you enough, that’s your decision.
March 12, 2020 – then-Secretary of Education Ben Jones tells superintendents that there are no plans to close schools in South Dakota.
March 13, 2020 – Kristi Noem announces that schools in the state will be shut down for two weeks…which was then extended another two weeks…which was then extended to the rest of the school year.
Our teachers were excited to re-open in the fall of 2020–just saying…
I work in the travel industry, problem was international travel was shut down during COVID which meant no revenue coming in. The boss was fine just couldn’t afford to pay us. The business owner did apply for PPP but it wasn’t enough and he wasn’t about to commit fraud, meanwhile Kristi’s brothers got over $600,000 for their small business and wasn’t affected by COVID at all.
Taking away the extra unemployment put others and myself in a bind. Even a conservative economist said her claim of 80% of jobs being recovered was BS it was closer to 40. I contacted Johnson, Thune, and my locals reps offices and they were no thelp at all. Dusty’s office person said they were getting complaints from the hospitality owners out in the Hills they couldn’t find help because of the extra unemployment. I told her if those business owners don’t want to pay a living wage that is on them, not the worker. She had no answer for that.
I never felt guilty about collecting the extra unemployment because it was time working stiffs like me got a break. Farmers get the subsidies, billionaires get tax breaks, welfare queens get something and they actually sit on their butts all day so why can’t I get a little extra. I knew it wasn’t going to last forever but what pissed me off was 49 other governors even from other red states like North Dakota and Oklahoma accepted the money but Kristi was trying to score political points with Trump at the expense of her constituents. Thank God her political career is kaput.

And it does not explain why you didn’t get a job working for somebody else.
Where did I say international travel was shut down because of Kristi? Kristi taking the additional unemployment away is what I have an issue with and that put a big financial burden on me and that is something I will never forgive her for.
As for not finding another job I chose to stay the course because I knew travel would pick up again and the pandemic would eventually end. I enjoyed my job and wanted to keep it. Even Dusty’s office person commented that it was great I was a loyal employee because you don’t see that anymore.
I never blamed my employer for cutting my hours as the pandemic was out of their control. No one traveling, no money coming in. I don’t blame Kristi for the pandemic I blame China for that but I have an issue with her coldheartedness and lack of empathy towards people who get knocked down and need help getting back up.

Paying people to do nothing is NOT good for them or the economy. The longer you are unemployed, the harder it will be for you to re-enter the workforce.
When she did not shut down the state fair, when she did not shut down the Sturgis Rally, when she said the schools would be open, and she refused the extension of unemployment benefits, the message was clear and consistent: GO BACK TO WORK.
She got a lot of criticism for that. Covid cases and hospitalizations peaked in South Dakota in November 2020, when people started spending time indoors. But she realized, as did most of us, that “2 weeks to flatten the curve” had turned into months and was on track to turn into years. It could not continue.
You CHOSE to not work, and now brag about your loyalty to your job. As the Church Lady said “Isn’t that special!”
The taxpayers should not have had to pay for your loyalty and smug superiority.
I was working 20 hours a week I wasn’t sitting on my ass at home watching Netflix all day long I was trying to help rebuild a viable business one that has been open in my city for over 60 years. You’re the one being all smug and superior. You want people to get off their asses and work, offer them better wages.
BTW it’s the business owners that pay the premiums for unemployment insurance not the taxpayer.
you are arguing wirh a person who has actually received unemployment benefits and knows what is necessary to qualify for them:
you have to be ACTIVELY SEEKING EMPLOYMENT.
In the State of New York, that meant I had to show up at the Job Service office, meet with an agent, and show proof I had gone to a minimum of three interviews, every week.
You have admitted you did not look for work. If you were not out job-hunting. you were not eligible for unemployment benefits.
Noem was perfectly justified in cutting off your benefits.

I checked the rules in SD for unemployment benefits eligibility: you have to prove you applied for at least two jobs, either in person or through an online application, every week.
So just like it was when I was unemployed in the great state of NY in the 70s, you have to be in contact with the unemployment office, actively seeking employment, and be able to provide proof of your efforts, in order to qualify for benefits.
The Noem hater admits to not doing that, but is still mad at Noem for stopping the flow of free money.

We should all be so successful that we’re banned from the reservations, write books to make our cruelty into a virtue, spend millions on unneeded jet planes, spend billions to build and arm a masked thug army, play the harlot in the “friendly” skies with our boy toy, then get reassigned to visit and annoy Canada.
