It’s beginning to look like a rerun of the 2024 elections, where now House Majority Leader Scott Odenbach is once again pumping cash into the primary elections, as he’s trying to pick the people in the legislature. Along with State Representative (and Hillary Clinton Donor) Liz May, whose Political Action Committee is being used to place attack material which appears to be funded by Odenbach.
A campaign finance report filed today solidly lays out the paper trail:
Only donation since January – Liberty Tree PAC. Before that in 2024, most of the leftover funds came from a few legislators who are benefitting from the attack posts.
Such as State Rep. Tony Kayser, who is the beneficiary of an attack post against his opponent, Tyler Tordsen, who they shoehorned into this facebook post image through AI, despite it not resembling him all that much.
So about Liberty Tree PAC who is pumping cash into this Liz May’s PAC to do the smearing; this information comes from the 2025 year end report earlier this year, with most of the funds being sourced from Odenbach’s uncle Former State Rep. John Mills:
As well as Odenbach’s recent appointee to the State Board of Election, and others.
Liberty Tree PAC’s pre-primary report is due May 18th, so shortly, we’ll know more about who is pumping cash into the PAC for purposes of the Majority Leader Odenbach directing funds and working to attack candidates, and to potentially pick the members of the South Dakota Legislature.
The far right loons are out of control. They’ve taken to harassing businesses and people who have signs up for candidates other than in their caucus. So much for their “faith, family, freedom” bs.
I’ve been hearing that too — that people are getting harassed and lied to about candidates they’ve chosen to support. That is NOT okay. And the amount of candidates claiming to be “honest and Christian” and bold faced lying and harassing people is ridiculous.
The sad part… Many people believe that these loons care about grassroots. These people are professional politicians. The far right will wreck the state faster than any moderate Democrats or Republicans…But I guess a Republican with common sense is now a rino
Good for them. The other side has its resources and advocates. It would be foolish for the conservatives to not be organized and active.
There is a difference between being organized and engaging in constant personal attacks against elected officials who simply hold different views.
Disagreement is part of politics. But when groups spend more time tearing people down than building solutions, it damages the state. .
South Dakota’s future depends on people willing to work toward economic development, infrastructure, long term planning, and the betterment of our communities.
The cartoon version of Mr. Odenbach, railing into the wind with the cartoon Ms. May, has a swell haircut more reminiscent of Mr. Carley, who is from California, than the Leprechaunish nephew of Mr. Mills. However, grudznick is not much of a cartoon art critic.
This version of Odenbach would consider his old boss Steve Kirby a RINO.
Been saying these clowns are a problem since Trump’s first term. What did you guys expect supporting the orange clown? Its time to take our party back and start working for the people and not billionaires. End the war. Make the working class tax cuts permanent and remove the wealthy tax cuts. We are so screwed in November because no one has a spine to stand up to Trump.
These loons were a problem BEFORE Trump. Too bad you are so late to the party. This started in 2010 when Stace Nelson got on his soapbox and gathered a lot of crazies to support him. His time in the legislature was all about resolutions supporting individual planks in the Republican Party platform, so that the votes could be turned into scorecards. He did nothing but attack other Republicans in Pierre, and recruit more like-minded people to run for office. Nelson and the crazies were ahead of Trump by 6 years.

The amount of bought and paid for Liberty Tree Pac (Odenbach funded) candidates who have flopped to the Doeden dark side is hilarious. Scottie O should be much more selective on who he throws money at this time around, because it obviously didn’t buy loyalty.
