Supposedly after bypass surgery, Jim Eschenbaum, the 32-year former Democrat who is currently in charge of the SDGOP was going to be laid up for several weeks. But it seems that this time-table has been cast by the wayside as he gathered his strength from convalescing to tap out this post to social media attacking the front-runner in the race for Governor:

Didn’t the chair at one time say the party should stay out of primary elections?

Of course, that was after he originally said they should be involved..
Hand County Commissioner Jim Eschenbaum tried to use the word unity, but said the divide in the party can not be fixed because “we have politicians and people who are establishment players and they want to play politics” among other random words and noises that exited his voice box.
Eschenbaum spent more time attacking Sen. Thune, Governor Noem, a majority of the legislature and others, as well as declaring that the party should be involved in primary elections because that’s our wrestling match.
It’s challenging to keep up with the chairman’s flip-flops.
But maybe that he’s feeling well enough to tap things out on his phone, the worst chairman in SDGOP history could pivot from attacking officeholders to devoting some time to attempting to raise money?

What South Dakota has had enough of is utter incompetence from the state party
So Larry was just coasting along thinking he wouldn’t have to campaign or earn it….
It was one of the worst strategies I’ve seen so far.
How do you come to that conclusion based on what was stated? He was asked and he answered with the truth. If this surprised you, I’ve got some swamp land for you.
Larry wants the conversation to be about his feelings being hurt, rather than the taxes he’s allowing to be raised on you and me.
Gov Ahlers coming
The Reagan vs Trump is getting worse
Prayers for JimE on a speedy recovery.
He’s still an imbecile.
Eschenbaum is a former Democrat & Rhoden is a former Democrat.
Looks like birds of a feather stick together.
I’m waiting to see how many county GOP groups have funneled large amounts of money to newly formed special interest or nonprofit groups. I imagine the thought is the groups will then donate to the mutually favored primary candidates on behalf of the county GOP, thus not technically breaking the “not picking favorites in a primary” rule. This seems deceptive at best and corrupt at worst….certainly unethical and irresponsible. These local GOP groups have raised funds from their community supporters, including the candidates themselves, only for these non-political recipients to potentially spend on whatever they wish, rather than putting the money directly towards getting Republicans elected. Word is the SDGOP brass knows about this tactic and for all we know probably is encouraging it. They are just proving that donors really can’t trust where their dollars are going.
Jim is not the right person to be the chair of the SDGOP. He has zero knowledge or background and only won because, as I heard him say, a few ladies made it happen. He’s just a puppet.
SDGOP and from what I can tell, county GOPs have not hosted a forum featuring candidates nor have they lifted a finger to increase primary voter turnout. What a disgrace to the party and the people they serve.
You are too harsh. The first go-around at the Miller Golf Club was but a warm up. Now that all know about it, the second go-around will raise more than One Thousand dollars. More than One Thousand Dollars.
*frozen pizza and Bud Light bought by Mr. Eschenbaum will be out of his own pocket and not count against the tally.
We need to do away with county Republican groups. They do not represent mainstream Republicans. They only represent the crazy wackos.
Amen! Amen! Amen! Amen!
That’s right…sit on the sidelines, watch other people be in charge, throw rocks at the tent, and just disavow the ones who you feel are not Republicans. Get your asses in the running then. You must be able to do things so much better.
Is you, Mr. Anonymouse, saying Mr. Eschenbaum is but a rock thrower at those he feels are not Republicans? Or is you saying Mr. Eschenbaum is but a RINO hisownself?
To the reader: What are you doing to get off the sidelines this election? You can’t take any outcome for granted, get involved.
grudznick gives money to the swell fellows, glowers at people in restaurants, and goes to speeches to heckle those insaner than most. What other things should I be doing? Please go deeper than empty critiques. Or at least make your critique more specific. Like my good friend Bob used to say, “Just sayin…”
Word has it that the Tripp County Republicans funneled all the money they raised at the Lincoln Day Event to American Land & Legacy. If this is true, why do we support our local Republican groups only to have their local president take the money and support his own candidates?
To a 501c4 which is the definition of dark money. Tripp county has entered the valley of darkness.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see something like this happening. There’s clearly a faction that strongly opposes Tobin, even as she’s running a very active campaign in that area. While the GOP has publicly tried to remain neutral, the reality on the ground suggests that hasn’t been entirely successful. This would open the door for outside voices, like Radke and others, to do the dirty work. Much of the underlying tension seems tied back to the Summit pipeline debate—even though the project didn’t impact Tripp County.

Is anyone concerned that our current Governor doesn’t know the definition of blackmail?
I think our current Governor doesn’t know the definition of a great many things.
Dusty doesn’t understand transparency. That is reason enough not to elect him.
He’s running a campaign of hurt feelings.
I thought Rhangers were supposed to be tough.
I don’t know what the facts are regarding someone “threatening” Gov. Rhoden, in order to keep him out of the race. But it seems to me that the accusation just makes Rhoden look weak.
It reminds me of when candidates complain that their yard signs were stolen. It’s best to ignore things like that, especially in a race for a powerful position like governor.
However… if it was true AND there was a recording of it… that might prove interesting.
There was an interview about it. He was asked and answered truthfully. It was very matter-of-fact. Not whining. He stated dozens across the state brought him messages either from Dusty or insinuations that Dusty’s money would grind him to dust. Those messages were told to Rhoden from people who had spoken to Dusty. Message being from Dusty, not the people. I personally spoke to two people who told me mostly the same but more specifically Dusty told rooms of people and one on one, loud and clear that Rhoden wasn’t going to enter the race. That was a lie, of course, and they then donated to Dusty. Again, personal reference, not hearsay. No, I would not say who it was but I know it to be truth so you’ll have to take it for what it’s worth.
Dusty may have told rooms full of people that as of the date he was talking to them, Rhoden hadn’t entered the race.
Larry put off any announcement for a longer time than anybody else, and frankly, we were wondering if and when he would announce he was running. Meanwhile, Dusty was making phone calls asking for support. I am sure there were people wondering if Larry was going to run, and when Dusty called, they said yes.
I can see how people hearing someone say that Rhoden “isn’t running yet” thought they heard “isn’t running.”
Two different things.
I may not vote for Dusty, however the chair of the party should be staying out of this type of commenting. His job is to ensure we have a big tent and to raise money.
Has the SDTRUMP Party chair endorsed Toby Doeden in his official capacity yet?
The worst SDGOP chairman SO FAR.
It’s not going to get any better.
How does a state party raise almost zero dollars and be ok with it?
Most certainly, donors are being told to send money to select PACs like America, Land & Legacy. The chairman and the SDGOP have a heavy thumb on the scale.
Corruption at its finest!
The SDGOP no longer really has donors, at least not anyone that has historically donated to Republican candidates. Those donors are now directly funding candidates that are running against these clowns.
The part that makes Larry look bad is that he, along with Noem, did much worse to their primary opponent in 2018. If he was OK with that, what is his problem with what is being done to him?
