Oh.. no no no. Did I really see that?
There’s a reason that sometimes you get a second opinion on political pieces. I collaborate with people all the time. Sometimes you can look at things 100 times, and not catch something. And someone else sees an error or something that just doesn’t work right away.
In fact, I was looking at something just on Friday and pointed out “you’re clipping the top of the candidates head off” and they immediately went and fixed it.
So, when someone sent this over to me today, my jaw immediately dropped.

This piece is a postcard sent out by District 16 House Candidate Jason Vandentop, with language on the card which declares him a Christian and conservative leader, as he stands next to a White American sign.
Yes, there was a tractor manufactured by the White Company in the 1980’s. And yes, they called it the American.
But you know, you take a picture standing in front of that, put that on the front of a political postcard referring to yourself as a conservative Christian.. and that just takes on a different meaning.
If there are any other tractor aficionados out there.. I think I’d stick with the International Harvester’s or John Deere’s.
Just so people don’t start wondering.
Update.. forgot to mention, here’s the other side. There’s no disclaimer on this postcard either- which is actually against the law:

What’s wrong with being a white American ?
The reason you don’t put out a political mailer with “White American” is the same reason you don’t post about “White Boys Summer.” It’s also the same reason why Mark Robinson killed his political career when he referred to himself as a “Black Nazi.”
Maybe it wasn’t an accident and was intentional. The candidate has “plausible deniability.”
You should talk to your web developer to have the opportunity to upvotw comments… you nobody likes a white boy summer
Definitely not an accident. It fits too perfectly in the photo, like it was obviously intended.
Saying the quiet part out loud… Not surprised.
One thing I noticed, the photo is not centered on the candidate. It’s not even centered on the couple. It is intentionally off-center so “White American” is in the photo.
You’re absolutely right, Pat. It’s off-center on purpose so “White” won’t be cut off.
If they really cared about the fact that it’s a tractor, they would’ve zoomed out. I didn’t even know it was a tractor until I read your article! So it’s not about the ag connection. Their only plausible purpose is that they want to make sure “White American” is prominently displayed in the photo.
There are no words.
Is listing Christian mandatory with MAGA or the Trump Party these days? Some play the Christian card but their actions are anything but Christian at least according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
How about a fiscally conservative candidate that is Buddhist? Muslim? Sikh? Wiccan? Atheist? Hindu or one of the other world religions?
Preach!
Also, when I see that and how some people fawn over it, I can’t help but wonder in whom they are putting their faith. The Lord or the government?
I am trying to remember what Jesus said about tractors, Americans, white people, etc
You may have to call the White House and ask President Trump’s spiritual advisor but it may cost you $1,000.
grudznick is very fiscally conservative, and is Agnostic, Nihilist, and Wiccan. You know how I good-naturedly tease my close personal friend Lar about his religion, right?
Good catch, if they’re putting “Christian” on the card, maybe a photo of supporting widows and orphans, or welcoming the foreigner, maybe? Christ was unwaveringly clear, more so than the evangelicals.
White Supremacist.
Abraham Lincoln must be rolling in his grave seeing what has happened to the country he made the ultimate sacrifice for. Adding insult to injury seeing what has happened to the political party that invokes his name, images and names fundraising dinners after him.
The ‘publican racist dog whistle gets louder as time goes by
It’s official. The DWC has been taken over by the I’m offended by everything crowd.
I see the hypersensitive offended by everything crowd is out in full force today. Instead of all the assumptions, why don’t you all contact the candidate and ask him why? He has listed his contract information. Heaven forbid he should ever enter this tractor in an antique tractor parade. Oh the horror.
Last I knew it was not about the candidate, and more about appealing to the voters you were trying to get to vote for one’s self.
Not about the candidate? Really? Some commentators and you yourself have made this about the candidate, and what you perceive is an improper political add. Maybe the guy is just proud of his antique tractor. If I lived in his district this would not persuade me to not vote for him. There are more important issues than his hobby.
If he was “proud of his tractor” he would be showing the whole thing –not just the nameplate 🤦
I think the candidate made things pretty clear with this photo.
This puts me in mind of that great old running gag on TOP GEAR (UK). Whenever they converted a sedan into a race car, the main sponsor of the car was listed as “Peniston Oil Co.” You KNOW which five letters were on the drivers door, you saw them every time the door was opened. Good times lol
I’m pretty sure this is the guy Amy Harms got the Lincoln GOP to endorse as the replacement for Herman Otten when Herman resigned. Gov Rhoden had asked for applications and the Lincoln GOP Exec Board published a letter of endorsement, which is highly inappropriate since they picked one Republican over another. Remember, Amy Harms is Lincoln Chair, so she’s the biggest one at fault for that abuse of power. Amy is also running for County Commissioner against Sheri Landeen. Betty Otten has endorsed Landeen. I can see why, considering Harms has abused her Chair position and has backed a guy who thinks “White America” is a critical message to include in his campaign mailers!
The Vandentops, Amy Harms, and the rest of the Lincoln GOP Executive Committee are all big supporters of the Hanson-Lems campaign. Maybe someone should ask John Hanson if he supports the “White America” message. I bet you my beer budget that he refuses to answer.
No one likes White tractors, it’s about as appealing as an Oliver or International. They all went belly up.
District 16 really needs to stop backing these glib apologists from their ranks because at they’re just priming their voters to excuse away voting for an actual neo-nazi. And one wonders why young people leave this state and a certain type of retiree comes here.
If the only qualification he has for office is the fact that he’d white, then he doesn’t deserve to even be considered
Please — anyone who wants to excuse this as harmless — get a grip. This isn’t about being offended by anything — this is about understanding the good taste to not make a political ad that sounds like it came from David Duke or the Klan. It’s offensive on so many levels. There is nothing innocent about it. Then to add insult — don’t even bother to follow South Dakota law?? And then to slap the label christian on it. This needs to be firmly rejected. This is not my GOP.
grudznick has been warning you all about the overgodders for years. Smite back at the overgodders.
I heard that Mike Lindell has pallet loads of unsold My Pillow sheets left over.
If Vandentop and his wife would make pointed
Hoods with eyeholes in them it would complete their ensemble.
Good grief….
Ray approves of the postcard.
You haven’t met Ray? His last name is Cism.
Ray Cism.
Curious if Jason Vandentop attended the Sioux Falls rightfully protested Doeden event where Mark Robinson ( a self described Black NAZI and Holocaust denier among other disgusting public stances) was the there.
