It’s only Monday of convention week, and it’s already crazy.
The State Republican Party tonight and this past weekend improperly held platform committee hearings via Zoom, for which there is no provision in the State bylaws to conduct electronically. But those in charge of the Republican Party don’t seem to worry about the rules.
And now tonight, Republican Party Convention chair and Pennington County Republican Party chair, Amy Wagner, decided to use the Pennington County Republican Party mail server to attack one of the candidates for Attorney General on the cusp of the convention.
Someone explain to me why the State GOP’s executive board isn’t holding an emergency meeting tonight to replace her as convention chair?
I think if there is any danger to the convention process, it’s being brought about by the fact that people aren’t following the bylaws, and using their position and titles to try to influence the process. Despite a long, long-standing tradition of the party not doing that.
That kind of nonsense is going to erode any credibility from the convention far before anything.

Absolute insanity
Silly rabbit, bylaws are only important when your side of the party isn’t in power.
Rules, process and procedures ————— the heck you say!
Integrity? What is that?
Man the torpedoes boys and girls ——-this could get wild!
There are no words.
Amy, thank you for proving the point Austin was making.
Ridiculous
BuT tHe DeMoCrAtS!!!!!!!
Absolutely no statewide candidates should be selected by party bosses in this day and age. Hard to think of anything much reason this should be allowed. Letting zealots with nothing better to do on a weekend in June is laughable.
The only way to change it is a constitutional amendment vote. The legislature won’t change it. They’re too scared of getting primaried.
It’s time to combine Auditor, Treasurer, and public lands into one Comptroller.
Absolutely unacceptable. She should resign immediately – or be removed by the state executive board. This is inexcusable. An embarrassment. Demand her removal. If this behavior is tolerated, it will only continue to discredit the legitimacy of the Republican Party in the state of South Dakota that so many worked for decades to tirelessly build. The current clown-show state party administration has done enough; they’ve been doing this quietly behind the scenes for years. This is the quiet part out loud, and it has to be stopped now.
Amy, I hope you see this comment. As a voting member this weekend, I have never wanted to vote for Austin Hoffman more in my life now that you just publicly attacked him – in probably the dumbest way possible. I guess your desperation just backfired!
“But those in charge of the Republican Party don’t seem to worry about the rules.”
No truer words have appeared on this blog.
They learned every single bit of this crap from
The Orange Jesus.
None of this B. S. started before the Golden Boy came down the escalator.
GOP in turmoil?
Get the popcorn, this should be good.
If you SDGOP folks don’t like popcorn, please continue to eat your young.
That is an ignorant and uninformed statement. Are you in the SD GOP? We all get it. You hate and blame everything on Trump.
The well planned takeover of the SD GOP started around 2008
This has nothing to do with Trump. Its all about the democrat Jim Eschenbama and the radical maniacs like Phil Jensen, Tina Mulally, Bethany Soye, Scott Odenbach, Amy Wagner, and like minded zealots who infiltrated the GOP and turned it into a bunch of librarian locking up, jailing mothers, anti-pipeline, anti development cretins who want to shoot down airplanes because of vapor trails.
You know book burning is on their list too.
There it is. BuT tHe DeMoCrAtS!!!!!!!
Sorry, Amy. No one cares what you think and it’s very telling you’re a power hungry boomer. Go home and let the next generation lead.
The party saw this coming long before Trump rode down the golden escalator. The state bylaws committee was charged with changing the bylaws with suggestions like having precinct committee people take office AFTER the convention, or eliminating their voting privileges altogether. We did manage to give county party secretaries and treasurers voting privileges at the convention, to put some power in the hands of party members who actually put some work into building the party, but the problem of precinct committee people who just want to be disruptive continued. We saw this coming but too many people fretted about “blowback” if we made any other changes.
At one state central committee meeting, I warned the committee that if we didn’t fix this, the legislature would take away the convention’s process for nominating statewide candidates. They still didn’t do it.
By 2022, the attempted hijacking of the LG nomination got that process changed.
That was a close one.
Let’s see what happens this year.
Amy who…?
Who does she think she is that she should be making public comments like this while serving in the elected capacity she currently holds?
This whole breed of “for the people” individuals who are clearly about personal power and ego trips is unbelievable.
Wake me when something surprising and unexpected happens. Malfeasance no longer holds my interest.
So Amy thinks that keeping Hoffman from getting AG will also keep him from pushing to get the AG and SOS positions moved to a statewide primary? Good thing logic isn’t slowing down her train of thought.
This is the same bunch of loons who, in 2022, voted AGAINST a resolution congratulating the winners of the party’s primary and endorsing them for election in the general. Nearly half the delegates in Watertown said they were planning to vote for the Democrats’ candidates instead. This mob of malcontents were led by Taffy Howard.
Two years earlier, Taffy took the lead in defeating a resolution celebrating the Republican Party’s origins in the Abolitionist movement and supporting the establishment of “Juneteenth” as a national holiday.
These are the people who call the rest of us RINOs: they vote for Democrats and they think the abolition of slavery was a Bad Idea. Now they have chosen an Obama supporter to lead the state party. Off a cliff.
BuT tHe DeMoCrAtS!!!!!!!
God, do you listen to yourself? It’s not even hard to see the party I grew up with suddenly shift under the control of Nazis and yet somehow the Democrats are responsible? Give me a break.
