Get your fingers out, and wear a pair of flip-flops in the bigger counties. Because the SDGOP appears to be going all-in on the hand-counting nonsense.

In a recent training they just took to facebook to announce, they are now directly sponsoring the election goofballs of SD Canvassing by promoting a party-sponsored on-line session of how to count by hand with one of their big cheeses:

The South Dakota Republican Party is featuring self-declared election expert (and self-declared hero) Rick Weible in an on-line hand-counting training.  Even though none of the state’s county auditors have any interest in it, making this a stupid thing to spend time, money and effort on.

It’s really kind of a slap at the elected county auditors as well as the Republican Secretary of State. Which is opposite of the function that the SDGOP is supposed to serve.

If you were ever thinking about donating to the SDGOP; right on the cusp of the holiday season they managed to come up with yet another reason to be Grinch-ful when it comes to any thought of sharing the wealth, and to not support the State Republican party’s efforts.

Instead, this holiday think locally, and give to your candidates directly.

  1. You nailed it Pat. Don’t give money to the State (or your county) GOP. There’s no promise they will support your cause or your candidates. Give to your local candidates.

      1. It should be the standard of practice everywhere. Nothing’s ever been stolen out of my car, but I still lock the doors.

        1. It’s less accurate than machine counting. A better analogy would be that you’ve never had anything stolen out of your car and that’s why you removed the locks.

        2. That analogy doesn’t make your case the way you think it does. You’re saying we should take precautions against fraud…. and we do!! That’s why the machines aren’t hooked up to the internet. That’s why the machines are kept in a secure location. In terms of your analogy, our election officials are already locking the car AND putting an antitheft device on the steering wheel. What you’re proposing is that we go back to driving a horse and buggy because, you argue, cars have a potential to be stolen.

          That’s a ridiculous conclusion to reach given your premise.

          Btw: horse and buggies can also be stolen, just as fraud is possible elections with hand counted ballots. Why do you think they outlawed things like stuffing the ballot box and bribing people for their votes? Why do you think it’s illegal to show someone your ballot? It’s because people like Al Capone would rough you up if you voted the “wrong” way. That was loooong before calculators, much less computers, much less the internet, existed! Even in modern times, election workers can “find” an extra box of ballots … or conveniently lose ballots from an area they know to be hostile to them. In that scenario, it doesn’t matter how the ballots are counted, the election is still compromised. Your solution doesn’t fix the problem any more than removing your shoes at the airport does. If we were to implement hand counting, all we would accomplish is to waste a massive amount of time, energy, and taxpayer dollars so you can feel better about a system that is not any more secure.

            1. What is your argument, exactly? That despite the fact there is no evidence that supports hand counting, we should do it anyway?

    3. The data does not lie. Hand counting consistently results in far more inaccuracies and botched election returns than are seen in counts conducted using automatic-tabulating machines. Automatic-tabulating machines are more accurate, faster, and cheaper than counting ballots by hand. The luddites advocating for universal hand counting are not concerned with the repeated catastrophes caused by human error on election night, including repeated botched hand counts.

      1. Exactly. It would be a lot cheaper if we just bought you a security blanket to clutch while you’re voting so you could feel more secure.

    4. You asshats that throw around the term RINO have lost your credibility. Have you not followed any of the local news stories in the past 2-4 years where hand counting has been a disaster? Hand,Tripp and McPherson. And before you say the RINO s controlled those hand counts it was the election deniers who were allowed to count and handle every PAPER ballot that couldn’t even get there s##t straight. And those are very sparsely populated counties. Go ahead count 7,8 maybe 10 different candidate races( cuz the numbskulls in Pierre want local elections ie. School board and city council to take place with state and federal elections)a few initiated measures and throw in a constitutional amendment. Now multiply that by 100,000 votes in minnehaha and count 700000 tallies accurately, and report the results by midnight on Election Day. Who’s gonna audit the hand count cuz we know there will be many mistakes?

        1. You’re right they don’t, but it’s a standard everyone has come to recognize. So when hand counting in the large population areas like Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aberdeen ect…don’t report until the next day or the day after that, you and your ilk will sit quietly and not pound your fist and throw a fit? I mean who will you blame for the slow results? And again I ask, who audits the hand count? Machines? Cuz that’s what needed to happen in hand and tripp counties when they couldn’t get the hand counting right.

    5. First, you might take interest in a significant number of studies that show when you try and convince people that someone is a certain thing, RINO in this case, you are actually most concerned that you yourself are that.

      Second, because every study out there shows that hand counting is a complete waste of time and tabulators are significantly more accurate. Simply put, because we’re not dumb.

    1. Rick was a loser in Minnesota too. Claim to fame is being a mayor in the most liberal County in the State. He never backed a winner and had multiple businesses fail. This grift has been the most successful business he has had.

    2. Check out pictures of Ricky’s last hand counting demo, sh!tload of cameras and wires broadcasting everything for ‘transparency’ seems very ironic to need a bunch of cameras and things for a hand count that’s supposed to save money.

  7. One of these hand counters came to our last Cracker Barrel. He said the Chinese were controlling the machines that counted votes. I pointed out to him that those readers/scanners aren’t connected to the internet – it’s plugged in like your toaster. I asked him if he thought his toaster was controlled by the Chinese too, and he nodded yes!

    I’m going to bet that I have been involved in more hand counting recounts in South Dakota than anybody associated with Weenie Wobble (their “expert”). The errors and judgments in handcounting are many. It’s not a close call as to which system is more accurate. The fact that Weenie Wobble and his crew are wasting public resources on this foolishness, is very sad – for our taxpayers

  10. Elected officials in south dakota are controlled by the GOP at 94.7% from every level. So can someone please explain to me why the GOP and this group is pushing for this when they literally CONTROLL EVERYTHING? Is this the quiet part being said aloud that their own elections are fraudulent? Seriously, someone please explain this to me…..but only explain it like im in kindergarten.

  15. The SDC put the current SOS out there as their champion and she flipped the script on them. They couldn’t manipulate her anymore so they waged war on her and the auditors who the SDC sees as her army. The SDC leader, failed prom queen candidate, and the Wobbly Weible can’t handle it.

    Rick and the misses got fired and kicked out of the boardroom and now they have Princess Leah as their new puppet. Baxter has no idea what’s she is getting into. Another puppet.

    He definitely not an expert on anything except hot air, collecting innocent people’s money, and spending it to ruin the SOS they propelled into office.

    They can stop…it pays too well. It inflates the ego too well and gives the goonies a community to call home and they can say they have friends.

    I can’t believe people buy into this excrement but they do.

    The fact that the new GOP is among them is another good illustration of their liberal thinking being exposed. True conservatives would never entertain such thoughts.
