SECRETARY JOHNSON CELEBRATES CONSTITUTION DAY

(Pierre, S.D.) – Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson is celebrating Constitution Day on September 17 and encouraging South Dakotans to reflect on the rights and responsibilities established by the United States Constitution.

Constitution Day marks the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. The Constitution established the framework of the federal government and remains the foundation for many of the rights exercised by Americans today, including participation in the election process.

“Constitution Day is an opportunity to remember that our system of government depends on citizens understanding and participating in it,” Secretary Johnson said. “One of the most important ways South Dakotans take part in that system is through voting.”

The Secretary of State’s Office encourages South Dakotans to take time this week to review their voter registration information, learn more about the upcoming election, and become familiar with the resources available through the state’s election website.

Absentee voting for the November 3, 2026 General Election begins this Friday, September 18th. Voters may check their registration, review election information, and access voter resources through the Secretary of State’s VIP portal on our website at https://vip.sdsos.gov/VIPLogin.aspx.

“Whether someone votes absentee or on Election Day, being informed and prepared is an important part of participating and protecting our Constitutional Republic,” Secretary Johnson said.

  1. If only the constitution meant anything anymore. Lots of lip service from the republicans of this state but when it comes to following it that’s another thing.

    1. What about liberal’s in DC?
      Do they all follow it?
Can you say that most politicians on both sides quit following the constitution to fill their pockets with millions?

      1. They follow it. You’re like that Monty Python character at the Ministry of Arguments, who mindlessly contradicts whatever is said, with no factual support given, as if we would automatically know what you know and accept it as true. It’s pretty tiresome.

        1. Nah,,,
I’ve been alive through 14 Presidents, and served under six of them.
God only knows how many senators, and Congress men and woman, and only republicans don’t follow the constitution?
Through all that the China flu was the biggest hoax I’ve ever seen. That and all of them that became millionaires when leaving office!
Between liberals and transgender mental illness is real!
You seriously can’t be that stupid. Maybe it was all the acid you you took watching Monty Python effected your little brain!I

          1. The fact that your arrogance makes you so damn certain that LIBERALS are the mentally deranged ones, really tells the rest of us that the reverse is probably true, i.e. you yourself seem to lack a few crucial mental facilities. A sad case.

            1. The fact that you are so dense you can’t see it tells everyone that you are an idiot. Define a woman. That request was put forth to the libturd heroine, now Justice Affirmative Action Jackson. And she couldn’t do it. The fact you libturds think just because someone claims to be a woman, they are then a woman pretty much illustrates your insanity.

          2. Puke up some proof on the ‘china flu’. Get your head out of the sand. Steve. Thanks for your service, but I don’t think it makes you an expert.

  2. Not a difficult decision if you are primarily interested in the office rather than purely the party. Davis is an awesomely better candidate. Those who believe that she should toe the party line should have put up a more competitive candidate.
